Transaxle creeping or dead? Engine hunting at idle? This 440-page workshop manual covers hydrostatic drive, engine internals, and full wiring: exactly what the dealer won't hand you.

Three riding mower variants live in one factory-sourced reference here, with callouts flagging wherever T1880 specs split from the T2080 and T2380. Wiring diagrams cover all three machines, including the Kubota Reverse Awareness (KRA) electrical circuit, alongside a hydraulic schematic that traces fluid paths through the G730TM hydrostatic transaxle. Troubleshooting runs 25 pages across engine, brakes, steering, PTO, and mower deck faults; another 14 pages of tightening torques handle metric, American standard, and system fasteners, backed by 150 pages of step-by-step procedures. Fill the hydrostatic transaxle to 2.70-2.75 liters and torque M8 class-8.8 bolts to 24-27 N·m. Stop chasing faults with a multimeter and a prayer. Bookmarked by section and keyword-searchable, it opens on your tablet so you can get back to work.

Kubota T1880, T2080, T2380 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Kubota T1880 engine cranks slowly or won't start after sitting overnight in cold weather p. 61

Test battery voltage first. A fully charged battery reads 12.6 V (page 31); below 12.0 V, charge and load-test before suspecting the starter. Follow the no-crank decision tree on page 61 to work through safety interlocks and the fuel circuit. Confirm oil was changed at the 100-hour or annual interval on page 13, since degraded oil thickens badly in cold weather.

Manual Section: Sect 1 Engine
Mower jerks during direction changes or loses drive power on flat ground p. 73

Verify the hydrostatic transaxle fluid level; total capacity is 2.70 to 2.75 L for all three models. Inspect for leaks around the transaxle housing and cooler lines before topping off. Work through the jerky-start and power-loss checks starting on page 73. Low or contaminated fluid is the first cause to rule out before suspecting internal wear.

Manual Section: Sect 2 Hydrostatic Transaxle
Deck leaves streaks of uncut grass or blades scalp and bounce at normal speed p. 182

Remove each blade and inspect for bends, cracks, or worn cutting edges. Even slight imbalance causes scalping and streaking. Reinstall with blade screws torqued to 98 to 118 N·m (72 to 87 lbf·ft) per page 182. Check deck levelness and cutting height adjustment, then work through the cut-quality checklist on page 173 for anything left.

Manual Section: Sect 9 Mower
Battery goes dead between sessions or all electrical accessories stop working intermittently p. 149

Measure battery voltage at rest. A reading of 12.6 V confirms a full charge (page 31); anything below 12.0 V means the battery is not holding charge or the charging circuit is faulty. Inspect stator output and rectifier-regulator condition per the Electrical section on page 149. Trace wiring connectors for corrosion using the wiring diagram on page 151.

Manual Section: Sect 8 Electrical
PTO engages but blade doesn't rotate, or belt slips under cutting load p. 26

Check the PTO tension spring length with the PTO engaged. It should measure 75 to 78 mm (page 26); a worn or stretched spring means the belt never reaches full tension. Inspect the belt for glazing, cracks, or fraying, then verify engagement linkage adjustment in the PTO section on page 137. Replace a glazed belt before reinstalling.

Manual Section: Sect 7 PTO
Brake pedal sinks nearly to the floor or parking brake won't hold on slopes p. 87

Gauge brake pedal free play at the pedal pad. Spec is 40 to 50 mm; adjust at the brake rod until within range (page 23). If pedal travel is correct but braking force stays weak, inspect brake pads and drum contact surfaces for glazing or wear. Work through the insufficient braking force checks on page 87.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the recommended service intervals?

Service intervals vary by component. For example, a daily check covers tire pressure and engine oil level. The precleaner element should be cleaned every 25 hours or 2 months, and engine oil changed every 100 hours or annually. Spark plug condition and gap should be checked every 200 hours or 2 years.

What fluids and capacities does this machine require?

Each component takes specific fluids and capacities. The T1880 engine crankcase holds 1.5 L (1.6 U.S.qts) of API service classification SG, SH, SJ or higher engine oil. The hydrostatic transmission takes 2.70 to 2.75 L (2.85 to 2.9 U.S.qts) of API service classification SL SAE 20W-50 engine oil. The fuel tank holds 15 L (3.9 U.S.gals) of unleaded gasoline, 87 octane or higher.

How to troubleshoot engine won't start?

If the engine will not crank, probable causes include an engine jammed, a discharged battery, or a malfunctioning starter. Solutions involve checking the engine for trouble, charging or replacing the battery, or repairing/replacing the starter. Other issues could be a blown slow blow fuse or defective main, PTO, brake, reverse, or seat switches.

What are the hydraulic system specifications?

The G730™ hydrostatic transaxle has an overall reduction of 27.49:1. It operates with a maximum input speed of 3600 rpm (no load) and a minimum of 1800 rpm. The intermittent output torque is 445 lbf·ft (603 N·m), and continuous output torque is 230 lbf·ft (312 N·m). The unit weighs 42 lbs (19 kg).
