B1600 won't start, cranks weak, or smokes under load? Hitch dragging, 4WD binding, overheating mid-mow? This 48-page service manual walks the diesel, hydraulic, and driveline checks Kubota techs...

Your B1600 or B1600DT keeps running like it did off the line when you work from factory procedures. Thirty pages cover skilled operation and rotary equipment, twenty more handle maintenance and care: clutch, brake, fan belt, and steering adjustments. An exploded view section walks the 3-point linkage and PTO attachment on both Side Drive (RS) and Centre Drive (RK) tillers. Fill the transmission to 17 Liters, swap the fuel filter every 350 hours, clean the air filter every 50 hours. Confirm the NS70L (12V 65Ah) battery feeds the 12V, 0.8kW starter before you crank. Skip the forum guesses and pull the factory numbers. The bookmarked PDF opens on laptop, tablet, or phone, so you can carry it right to the machine.

Kubota B1600, B1600DT Common Problems This Manual Covers

Kubota B1600 diesel engine cranks but will not start or stalls shortly after firing p. 47

Bleed air from the fuel system before chasing injectors. Open the fuel filter air vent screw, pump the priming lever until clear fuel flows without bubbles, then crack the injector lines at the nozzles and crank until fuel weeps. Replace the fuel filter every 350 hours. The troubleshooting chart on page 47 can help diagnose the cause. The full air pulling-out (bleeding) procedure is on page 32.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting
Engine smokes black under load, lacks power on hills, and bogs down during tilling p. 47

Pull the air cleaner element and tap out dust on a hard surface, then inspect for pinholes against a light. Clean every 50 hours in dusty conditions, replace if torn. Verify the fuel filter is not restricted and the exhaust is clear. The troubleshooting chart on page 47 lists bad exhaust color causes in order.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting
Three-point hitch lifts slowly, drops under load, or loader response feels sluggish and weak p. 46

Check transmission/hydraulic oil level on the dipstick with the tractor level and lift lowered. Top off to the upper mark. Total capacity is 17 Liters. Clean the hydraulic suction strainer at the first 50 hour service, then on schedule per page 46. Contaminated fluid will starve the pump before the relief valve ever opens.

Manual Section: Maintenance and Care
Clutch slips under load or pedal feels spongy with no clean engagement point p. 42

Measure free play at the top of the clutch pedal before it meets resistance. Specification is 20 to 30 mm. Loosen the lock nut on the clutch rod and turn the turnbuckle to adjust, then retighten and verify. If play is correct but slip remains, the disc is worn and the clutch pack needs replacement.

Manual Section: Clutch System Adjustment
Overheating during mowing or heavy tillage, temperature gauge climbs into the red

Shut down and let it cool before opening the radiator cap. Blow out the radiator screen and fin pack from the fan side with compressed air. Check coolant level in the recovery tank and inspect the fan belt for glazing or cracks. Adjust belt deflection per the fan belt procedure on page 42 of the maintenance section.

Manual Section: Fan Belt Adjustment
Will not crank, starter clicks, or cranks too slowly to fire in cold weather

Load test the battery first. Specification is NS70L 12V 65Ah equivalent. Clean both posts and cable ends with a wire brush until bright, then coat with dielectric grease. Check electrolyte level in each cell and top off with distilled water to the upper line. Starter draw should match the 12V 0.8kW rating; excessive draw points to brushes or bushings.

Document Quality

This document is a scan of an older, physical service manual, and the pages show signs of use like stains and smudges. The text quality varies, with some sections being faded, and the English appears to be a rough translation. You can search the text, but the accuracy is low due to the scan quality. The diagrams are scanned line drawings that are generally understandable, but some labels are blurry or difficult to read.
