The system diagnostic Beep mode (Address 002) can help with diagnosis in the following ways:
• ”Verify” operation of components that are part of the control unit circuit.
• Help find component, harness, and connector problems.
Whenever a change in component operation is detected, the warning horn will sound.
NOTE: An example of a change in component operation is when a switch moves from open to closed or closed to open. Also, by moving a potentiometer type control slowly through it’s operating range, a break or “bad spot” in the potentiometer can be detected.
This audible signal verifies correct operation of a switch by sounding when the switch changes state (OFF to ON position). It also identifies a possible switch or circuit malfunction by not sounding when a switch status is changed.
The audible signal can also be used to check for connector and harness defects by moving / tugging on harnesses or connectors while in the Beep mode. If a “beep” is heard, the display will show the address number of the circuit that caused the “beep”. Beep Mode Addresses The following addresses support the diagnostic Beep mode:
