Changed the fuel filter and now it won't run right. Air in the lines. The M4900-M9000 manual covers the bleeder valve sequence and hydraulic fluid checks mechanics get wrong after service.

Five tractors share this 34-page operator manual PDF: the M4900, M5700, M6800S, M8200, and M9000, with every daily check, control function, and scheduled service interval pulled straight from Kubota engineering. It maps the instrument panel controls, foldable ROPS procedures, engine startup and shutdown, and jump-starting steps, plus 11 pages of safety warnings written for these five models. Fifteen operating procedures cover PTO engagement, three-point hitch setup, remote hydraulic controls, drawbar limits, tire pressure, wheel adjustment, and ballast. The service schedule runs from daily walk-arounds through every 3,000-hour interval. Rear wheel bolts (2WD) on the M4900 and M5700 call for 168 to 196 N·m [124 to 145 ft.lbs.]; the 4WD front axle bolts on the M6800S, M8200, and M9000 tighten to 260 to 304 N·m [192 to 224 ft.lbs.]. Bookmark any section and keep it open on your phone before you touch the first grease fitting.

Kubota M4900–M9000 Series Common Problems This Manual Covers

Kubota M4900 hard starting, loss of power, surging, or stalling after a fuel filter service p. 3

Bleed the air from the fuel lines before anything else. Confirm the fuel filter element was changed at its 100 Hr interval (page 3). Fill the tank to 65 L (17.2 U.S.gals.) and open the bleeder valve to prime the system.

Manual Section: Maintenance
Tractor gear engagement is difficult or grinding when shifting into forward or reverse p. 17

Check the clutch pedal free travel against the operator controls layout on page 17. Adjust the linkage until you get 35 to 45 mm (1.4 to 1.8 in.) of play, then confirm the shuttle shift lever switch moves smoothly.

Manual Section: Adjusting Clutch Pedal
Hydraulic shuttle squeal in neutral, weak loader response, or sudden loss of implement lift p. 4

Swap out the hydraulic oil filter first. Hold to the 300 Hr replacement interval listed on page 4. Then check the fluid level and top off, since a starved system is what causes the shuttle squeal and sluggish loader.

Manual Section: Maintenance
Front tires showing excessive inner tread wear or steering wanders while driving straight p. 20

Measure the front-wheel toe-in and bring it to 2 to 8 mm (0.08 to 0.31 in.) per page 20. Lock it by torquing the tie-rod nut to 167 to 196 N·m (123.3 to 144.6 ft·lbs), shown on page 21.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the procedure to bleed fuel on a Kubota M4900/M5700/M6800S/M8200/M9000?

For M4900-M5700 models, fill the fuel tank, open the fuel cock, then start the engine and run it for about 30 seconds before stopping. For M6800S-M8200-M9000 models, after filling the tank and opening the fuel cock, open the air vent cock on the fuel injection pump and pump the fuel pump knob until pulsation is felt. Then, start the engine with the hand throttle at maximum speed, reset to mid-speed (around 1500 rpm), accelerate, and finally close the air vent cock.

What are the replacement specifications for Fuel filter?

On the M4900 and M5700, the fuel filter element gets replaced every 100 hours; on the M6800S, M8200, and M9000, the fuel filter goes every 400 hours. To change it, remove the old filter, wet the new filter's rubber seal with clean fuel, and hand-tighten an extra 1/2 turn past contact, then bleed the fuel system.
