This is the Kubota Workshop Manual for the 03-M-E2B Series diesel engines, publication number 9Y011-02813. It runs 131 pages with a full text layer and covers the D1503-M, D1703-M, D1803-M, V2003-M, V2203-M, V2003-M-T, and V2403-M engines.

The manual works from engine identification and the maintenance check list through the engine body, cooling, fuel, and turbocharger systems, then into servicing: troubleshooting, servicing specifications, tightening torques, checking and adjusting, and full disassembly and assembly.

Owners and independent mechanics can use it to test compression, torque the cylinder head and main bearing case, set fan belt tension, and rebuild these engines to factory figures. Detailed servicing specifications and clearance limits support every repair.

Kubota 03-Series Diesel Engines Common Problems This Manual Covers

Low compression pressure

Worn piston rings, cylinders, or valves drop compression below the 2.55 MPa allowable limit and cause hard starting and lost power. The servicing specifications give the limits to measure against.

Manual Section: Servicing p. 54
Engine overheating

A thermostat that fails to open at 69.5 to 72.5 degrees C, or a leaking radiator, leaves the engine overheating. The cooling system coverage explains the thermostat and radiator checks.

Manual Section: Mechanism p. 49
Fuel leak from injection nozzle

A worn valve seat lets the injection nozzle leak and fail its tightness test, upsetting the fuel spray. Servicing procedures cover nozzle testing and the correct opening pressure.

Manual Section: Servicing p. 54
Oil leaks from wrong torque

Cylinder head or main bearing case screws set to the wrong torque cause oil leaks and pressure problems. The tightening torque tables give the factory values.

Manual Section: Servicing p. 54
Fan belt slip or noise

Incorrect fan belt tension, with deflection outside 7.0 to 9.0 mm at 98 N, causes slip, noise, and poor charging or cooling. The check and maintenance procedures set the tension.

Manual Section: General p. 11
Governor and idle instability

The 03-M series can suffer unstable idle and governor hunting. The servicing procedures cover adjustment of the injection pump and governor settings.

Manual Section: Servicing p. 54
Excessive vibration from worn gears

Backlash beyond spec in the crank, idle, cam, injection pump, or oil pump gears, or balancer wear on the V2203 and V2403, causes heavy vibration. Servicing checks the gear clearances.

Manual Section: Servicing p. 54
