Hydraulic system reset procedure (Releasing Tank Pressure)1. Position the machine on level ground with the bucket and dipper rams fully extended and the boom lowered to rest the attachment on the ground. 2. Stop the engine. 3. Remove the starter key. 4. Use the small Allen key supplied in the tool kit to loosen the spring-loaded retaining pin at the side of filler cap C. 5. Rotate the bolt 1/4 turn anti-clockwise against the spring and hold there. 6. Carefully unscrew the filler cap C approximately 10° until the pressure starts to release. 7. Remove the Allen key. 8. Leave the filler cap C at this setting to allow the pressure to release fully. 9. Verify by carefully removing the filler cap.p. 35

JCB JS130W, JS150W Common Problems This Manual Covers

JCB JS130W excavator boom and dipper functions feel weak or inconsistent during heavy lifting p. 97

Connect a high-pressure gauge rated for 0-400 bar (0-6000 lbf/in2) to the main test port. Start the engine and measure the main relief valve pressure. Adjust the valve to reach exactly 310 ±5 bar (4495 ±73 lbf/in2) as specified on page 93 and detailed in the adjustment procedure on page 105. Replace damaged hydraulic hoses.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Fault Finding
Upper structure rotation is jerky and the swing motor makes a loud grinding noise p. 207

Inspect the swing motor internals following the procedures on page 207. Renew all internal O-rings and oil seals if they have over 3000 hours of operation. Clean the balance plate and piston assembly shoes before reassembly. Refill the engine oil with 13.8 litres (3 UK gal) if drained.

Manual Section: Swing Motor Inspection (JS130W)
Machine turns over slowly in cold weather and the monitor panel flickers continuously p. 79

Test the battery terminals with a multimeter to verify a minimum of 24 Volt supply. Trace the main starter circuit using the wiring diagram on page 79. Clean all ground connections on the chassis and apply dielectric grease to prevent voltage drops across the harness.

Manual Section: Electrical System Schematic Diagrams
Hydraulic oil leaks constantly from the main control valve bank during operation p. 228

Release tank pressure using the system reset procedure on page 35 before opening lines. Unscrew the filler cap approximately 10 degrees to vent. Inspect the servo hand control valves and replace seal washer 121 each time the hexagonal socket head bolt 125 is loosened.

Manual Section: Servo Hand Control Valves Wear Limits

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the torque specs for JCB JS130W / JS150W track or swing components?

For swing components, the JS130W Swing Motor to Gearbox section bolts should be tightened to 117.7 Nm (86.8 lbf. ft.) as detailed on page 216. For the JS150W, the Valve Casing to Casing bolts require a torque of 423 Nm ± 65 (312 lbf. ft. ± 48) as found on page 220. For track/axle components, wheel nuts for both front and rear axles should be torqued to 680 Nm (500 lbf ft) as specified on pages 341 and 388. Front Axle trunnion mounting screws are 185 Nm (136 lbf ft) on page 352, and Rear Axle Hub Carrier socket head screws are 55 Nm (40 lbf ft) on page 409.

How do I reset hydraulic pressure settings on a JCB JS130W / JS150W?

To reset hydraulic pressure settings, you can adjust various relief valves. For instance, the servo pressure at the servo pump relief valve S can be adjusted, where one turn of the adjusting screw equals 39.2 bar (569 lb. in2) as described on page 104. Boom raise and lower Auxiliary Relief Valves (ARV's) can be adjusted, with one turn of the adjusting screw equaling 211.8 bar (3072 lb/in2) as per page 104. The main control valve MRV should operate at 310 ± 5 bar (4495 ± 73 lb/ in2) as detailed on page 105.

What are the replacement specifications for hydraulic seals?

For hydraulic seals, it is generally specified to use all new seals, O-rings, and back-up rings during assembly or if they show signs of damage or wear. For specific oil seals, such as those in the hydraulic pump, they should be renewed after 3000 hours of operation, or if damage to the lip is apparent, as detailed on page 144. New oil seals must always be fitted when reassembling the motor.

What are the replacement specifications for slew motor seals?

For slew (swing) motor seals, oil seals should be renewed if there is any damage to the lip or after 3000 hours of operation, even if they are not leaking or damaged. All O-rings and back-up rings should also be renewed if they appear damaged or after 3000 hours of operation. New seals, O-rings, and back-up rings must be fitted when reassembling the motor, as specified on page 207.
