Keeping a Bomag sanitary landfill compactor working its cell by the book is what this Bomag BC 462 RB, BC 472 RB, BC 472 RS operator manual PDF (OEM ID 008 053 21) is for, 146 pages running from pre-start checks to final shut-down. Maintenance fills the better part of the book, organized by service clock: 10-hour walkarounds through the 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 6000-hour intervals, backed by a full table of fuels and lubricants. Operating chapters walk you through the electronic immobilizer, jump-lead starting, dozer blade operation, bucket work on the RS, towing and transport, and every light and switch on the instrument cluster. Set the scrapers 5 mm off the compactor wheels, and plan on 21.5 liters when you change the engine oil. A compactor parked on the fill for want of one interval is a long afternoon. Bookmarked and text-searchable, the PDF goes wherever the machine does.

Bomag BC 462 RB, BC 472 RB, BC 472 RS Common Problems This Manual Covers

Bomag BC 462 RB engine will not start, diagnostic control lamp flashing after key on

Check that the immobilizer is disarmed with the user code before chasing anything electrical. Verify fuel level; the tank holds 375 L and a full landfill shift drains it faster than it looks. Then count the diagnostic lamp flashes to read the stored fault and follow the engine troubleshooting steps starting on page 136.

Manual Section: Trouble Shooting p. 136
Engine misfires or runs rough, squealing from the ribbed V-belt on the fuel pump drive

Inspect the ribbed V-belt on the fuel pump drive with the engine stopped and the main battery switch off. Replace the belt once wear reaches the 3 mm (0.12 in) limit given on page 96, and check compressor V-belt deflection while you are in there: 10 to 15 mm under thumb pressure is correct.

Manual Section: Every 500 Operating Hours p. 96
Coolant temperature climbing and engine down on power during dusty refuse pushing

Check the air filter first; refuse dust plugs elements faster than any spec book assumes, so service it per the procedure in the As Required section starting on page 125. Verify the coolant level every 10 operating hours during the daily checks on page 85, and blow the radiator fins clean before blaming the thermostat.

Manual Section: As Required p. 125
Engine hard to start and idles rough after fuel filter cartridge replacement or running the tank dry

Bleed the fuel system any time the filters are changed or the tank runs empty, following the procedure in the 1000 operating hour service section starting on page 107. Fill the new cartridges with clean fuel before fitting them, crank in short bursts, and check every union for leaks once the engine settles into idle.

Manual Section: Every 1000 Operating Hours p. 107
Wire and refuse building up on the compactor wheels, scrapers no longer clearing them

Adjust the outer scrapers to a 5 mm (0.2 inch) gap from the compactor wheels and set the inner scrapers to 0 mm, per the settings on page 127. Torque the scraper fastening bolts to 502 Nm when finished, then cut away wrapped wire before it works into the wheel seals and costs you the cell.

Manual Section: As Required p. 127
