Part of the Hitachi manuals.
Printed by Hitachi under document number EM1CC-1-1, this 260-page Hitachi Zaxis 75US operator manual PDF is the factory operator's book for the ZAXIS 75US hydraulic excavator. Maintenance fills close to a third of it, setting out the inspection guide, service intervals and filter changes, while the controls chapters explain the monitor panel, pilot control shut-off lever, travel mode switch and power mode before you move a track. Troubleshooting charts sort engine, electrical and hydraulic faults, and the transport section covers trailer loading, the machine lifting procedure and road travel. Plan on 75 L (19.8 US gal) for a hydraulic oil change and 12.0 L (3.2 US gal) of engine oil, then turn the pilot filter case down to 20 to 29 N·m. Half-remembered fill figures cost a crew its morning. Text is searchable, chapters are bookmarked, and you buy it once and keep it for the life of this machine.

Hitachi ZAXIS 75US Common Problems This Manual Covers
Hitachi Zaxis 75US engine will not start on cold mornings after sitting overnight in the yard
Check the no-start causes in the engine troubleshooting chart on page 222 before you swap any parts. Follow the cold weather starting steps in Operating the Engine on page 98. If the batteries are weak, connect booster batteries in the order that section gives. Make sure the tank has fuel; page 176 lists its capacity as 89 L.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 222Engine temperature climbing into overheat while digging all day in dusty conditions
Check the overheating causes listed in the engine troubleshooting chart on page 223 and work through them in order. When the machine runs in heavy dust, follow the dusty atmosphere maintenance guidance on page 218. Verify the engine oil level, and when you change the oil, refill with 12.0 L as listed on page 156.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 223Engine cranks slowly and charging indicator stays lit on the monitor panel after startup
Check the slow crank and charging indicator causes in the electrical system troubleshooting chart. Inspect the alternator belt. If the machine sat parked for weeks, review the battery and alternator belt care in the Storage section on page 220. To get it running, use booster batteries following the Operating the Engine procedure on page 98.
Manual Section: Electrical System TroubleshootingHydraulic oil foaming and boom, arm, and bucket functions running slow under load
Check the oil level in the hydraulic oil tank. Page 166 says it holds about 200 liters up to the specified level. Then work through the slow function and foaming causes in the hydraulic system troubleshooting chart. When the maintenance schedule calls for an oil change, refill with 75 L (19.8 US gal) as listed on page 147.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System TroubleshootingTrack chain hanging loose and sagging past spec when inspecting the undercarriage
Measure track sag following page 203 and compare it against 210 to 245 mm (8.3 to 9.0 in). Adjust track tension until the sag falls inside that range. Then turn valve (1) clockwise and tighten it to 147 N·m (108 lbf·ft) per page 204. Check both tracks before you put the machine back to work.
Manual Section: Maintenance p. 203Control levers not responding or not returning to neutral after engine start
Verify the pilot control shut-off lever position following the Operating the Machine section on page 116 before you check anything else. Then work through the hard movement, no response, and neutral return causes in the control levers troubleshooting chart. If the pilot oil filter is due for service, replace it and tighten the filter case to 20 to 29 N·m per page 170.
