The Kemper 450FI technical manual PDF breaks down the 450FI Rotary Harvesting Unit across 208 pages under OEM ID 84338732A, from the gear box and friction clutches through the feed drum and gathering drum transmissions. Exploded views lay out each assembly for teardown, and a general wiring diagram sits with the speed sensor coverage in the electrical section. Torque tables give unified inch and metric bolt values plus hydraulic inch and metric fitting values, while the special tools chapter lists dealer-fabricated tools and those sold as spare parts. The gear box takes 2.9 L (0.76 U.S. gal) of gear oil, and the gathering drum scrapers run at a 1 to 5 mm (0.04 to 0.2 in.) gap. If you are tracing declining drive performance or a hydraulic oil leak, the Diagnosis troubleshooting section and the change-over valve chapter give you a place to start. Bookmarked and searchable, the PDF travels wherever your 450FI works.

Kemper 450FI Common Problems This Manual Covers

Kemper 450FI rotary harvesting unit outer folding sections not folding when the folding mechanism is activated

Check the unit not folding entry in the troubleshooting chart on page 197, then test the change-over valve of the folding mechanism following the Hydraulic System procedure. Lower the unit to the ground, stop the engine and remove the key first (page 10). Relieve pressure before disconnecting any hydraulic line, tighten all connections before applying pressure, and search for leaks with cardboard, never your hands (page 8).

Manual Section: Troubleshooting p. 197
Hydraulic cylinder or check valve fittings weeping oil at the connections after cylinder repair

Check for the leak with a piece of cardboard, never bare hands, and relieve pressure before disconnecting any hydraulic line (page 8). Torque fittings on check valves to 35 N·m (26 lb-ft) following page 149, and fittings on the hydraulic cylinder to 35 N·m (26 lb-ft) per page 154. Tighten all connections before you apply pressure again.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Repair p. 149
Gear box spur gears showing play or worn parts found during gear box reconditioning

Drain oil at the drain plug into a suitable container, split the housing and check all parts for wear and damage. Replace unserviceable parts and every removed shaft seal and gasket. Spur gear play must be 0 mm per page 37. Torque the hex socket screws of the gear box halves to 55 N·m (40 lb-ft) and refill with 2.9 L of gear oil.

Manual Section: Gear Box Repair p. 37
Gathering drum scrapers and dividers out of adjustment after removing and reinstalling the gathering drums

Check that the unit is lowered to the ground, the engine stopped and the key removed before adjusting; never adjust the machine while it is moving (page 10). Measure scraper to gathering drum gap against 1 to 5 mm and divider to drum gap against 3 to 7 mm following page 171. Set the outer drum threaded rod to 231 mm and torque spherical collar bolts to 200 N·m (148 lb-ft).

Manual Section: Feed System - Gathering Drums p. 171
Rotor blade segments and rotating blade damaged on inspection and requiring new blade segment installation

Before touching the rotor, lower the unit, stop the engine, remove the key and keep hands and clothing clear of power-driven parts (page 10). Remove and check the rotor, then install new blade segments. Torque M8 blade segment and cleaner screws to 28 N·m (20.65 lb-ft), M10 screws to 51 N·m (37.62 lb-ft), and rotating blade attaching screws to 85 N·m (62.7 lb-ft) following page 181.

Manual Section: Feed System - Rotors p. 181
Friction clutches failing the specified torque check during general inspection before clutch reinstallation

Inspect each friction clutch following the general inspection procedure, then run the torque check against 900 N·m (657 lb-ft) as listed on page 53. Remove and disassemble any clutch that misses the value before reinstalling it. On the feed drum planetary drive, torque the radial-pin clutch to 280 to 320 N·m (206.5 to 236 lb-ft) per page 59.

Manual Section: Friction Clutches Repair p. 53

Frequently Asked Questions

What fluids and capacities does the Kemper 450FI rotary harvesting unit require?

The general capacities table lists 4.3 L (1.14 U.S. gal) of gear oil for the spur gear angle drive, while the gathering drum transmission specifications on page 101 list 4.4 L (1.16 U.S. gal) for the spur gear angle drive. The angle drive requires 4 L (1.06 U.S. gal), and the gear box requires 2.9 L (0.76 U.S. gal). Additionally, the spur gear angle drive requires 1.1 kg (2.42 lb) of lifetime low-viscosity grease. p. 27

What torque specifications are listed for the gear box?

For the gear box, the hex. socket screws of the gear box halves must be tightened to 55 N·m (40 lb-ft). The flanged pipe cap screws also require 55 N·m (40 lb-ft) of torque. p. 37

How do I check the friction clutch torque on the Kemper 450FI?

To check the friction clutch torque, attach testing device LCA78440 to a solid surface. Slide the friction clutch onto the testing device shaft, then attach the bushing and torque wrench. Check the torque using the wrench; the specified torque is 900 N·m (657 lb-ft). If the values are incorrect, disassemble the clutch, clean all parts, and repeat the procedure. p. 56

What is the specified torque for the M10 attaching screws of blade segments and cleaners on the Kemper 450FI?

The M10 attaching screws for blade segments and cleaners must be tightened to a torque of 51 N·m (37.62 lb-ft). p. 181

What is the required gap between the scraper and the gathering drum on the Kemper 450FI?

The gap between the scraper and the gathering drum must be adjusted to between 1 mm and 5 mm (0.04 to 0.2 in.). p. 185

What exactly do I receive with this Kemper 450FI Technical Manual?

Immediate download of the complete 208-page searchable Technical Manual. Access it on any device, from a laptop at your desk to a phone in the field.

Can I print specific sections of this Kemper 450FI Technical Manual?
