Takeuchi published this factory book under document number CU8E000: a 352-page Takeuchi TL8 service manual PDF written for the compact track loader, from specification tables through teardown of the HST pump, travel motors and cylinders. Electrical and hydraulic circuit diagrams sit in the service data section with the wire harness layouts, so you can trace a loader valve circuit or a dead sensor lead before a panel comes off. Disassembly and assembly takes the largest share of the book, and troubleshooting charts sorted by traveling, lift arm and bucket symptoms follow, along with the air conditioner system and maintenance software. Set travel forward relief at 34.5 MPa (5003 psi), arm and bucket relief at 21.0 MPa (3046 psi), and keep track tension within 25 to 50 mm (1.0 to 2.0 in.). A made-up relief figure splits hoses and cooks pumps. Bookmarked and text searchable, the file is a one-time purchase that stays yours for the life of your TL8.

Takeuchi TL8 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Takeuchi TL8 whole machine lacks power, with lift arm and bucket moving slowly or not at all

Check the hydraulic tank oil level first; total system volume is 58 L. Then work the Overall Machine flowchart on page 228 to narrow down the cause. Gauge the arm and bucket relief and compare it against 21.0 MPa (3046 psi), listed on page 23, before condemning any pump.

Manual Section: Overall Machine p. 228
Machine will not travel, one track slows down, or it veers off a straight line

Check right and left travel relief pressure and compare each side against 34.5 MPa (5003 psi) from page 23. A low reading on one side narrows the search; then follow the Traveling flowchart on page 234. Watch operating temperature too, since running hot is a listed travel symptom in that section.

Manual Section: Traveling p. 234
Lift arm cylinder drops on its own while the control valve sits in neutral

Inspect the arm cylinder for external oil leaks first, then work the spontaneous drop steps on page 241 to separate cylinder leakage from control valve leakage. Check the control valve spool for sliding problems and neutral position faults in the same pass, since actuator drop is listed under both sections.

Manual Section: Lift Arm p. 241
Bucket cylinder curls slowly, lacks force, or will not move at all

Test arm and bucket relief pressure and compare it against 21.0 MPa (3046 psi) from page 23. If pressure is low, check the control valve for pressure issues and spool sliding. If pressure holds but the bucket stays slow, inspect the bucket cylinder for oil leaks before you pull it.

Manual Section: Bucket
Travel motor fails to reach rated speed, won't shift to 2nd speed, or parking brake misbehaves

Check travel reduction gear oil on each side first; capacity is 1.0 L per side on page 20. Then test 2nd speed control and parking brake operation per the Travel Motor troubleshooting steps. If the motor has to come off, torque the travel motor fixing bolts to 241 N·m (177.8 ft.-lb) on reinstall, listed on page 102.

Manual Section: Travel Motor
Track rollers, idler, or sprocket worn and track sag out of tension spec

Measure track tension and adjust it to 25 to 50 mm (1.0 to 2.0 in.) per page 22. Measure track rollers, sprocket, and idler against the allowable values on page 87: track roller A 192 mm, sprocket A 404 mm, idler A 394 mm. Torque roller A and sprocket bolts to 241 N·m on reassembly.

Manual Section: Drive System p. 87

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the tightening torque for the engine hood bolts on the Takeuchi TL8?

The tightening torque for the engine hood bolts (identification code 'D') is 256 N·m (189 ft-lb). p. 90

What is the hydraulic oil tank capacity on the Takeuchi TL8?

The total amount of hydraulic oil is 58 L (15.3 US gal.), and the tank capacity is 38.7 L (10.2 US gal.). p. 20
