This is the Bomag factory Service Manual for the BC 672 RB-4, BC 772 RB-4, BC 772 RS-4 and BC 772 EB-4 refuse compactors, OEM publication 008 925 84, delivered as an 1100 page English PDF download. It applies to machines from serial numbers 101 570 04 1001, 101 570 02 1001, 101 570 03 1001 and 101 570 94 1001.

A landfill compactor that parks mid-shift leaves the cell open and the trucks queuing, and most of those stoppages trace back to the travel drive, the engine or the wiring. This is the workshop book for that work, written for the mechanic doing the testing and repair rather than the operator in the seat.

The file carries 448 bookmarks, so you can jump straight to the system you are chasing, and every page prints clean, so the sheets you need can go to the bench and get dirty.

Bomag BC 672 RB-4, BC 772 RB-4, BC 772 RS-4, BC 772 EB-4 Common Problems This Manual Covers

No drive or sluggish travel

A machine that crawls up the working face and stalls usually has a travel circuit fault: low charge pressure, a worn travel pump or a failing wheel motor. Work through the drive circuit tests before you condemn expensive components.

Manual Section: Travel drive
Wire wrap destroying wheel seals

Wire, strapping and cable wind in behind the wheels, chew through seals and overheat the drive. Worn scraper bars make it worse. The repair means pulling the wheel and rebuilding the sealing, and the drive coverage shows the teardown sequence.

Manual Section: Travel drive
Steering heavy or jerky

Slow or lumpy response at the articulated joint points to the steering hydraulics or wear in the joint itself. On a fill slope that is a safety issue, not an annoyance, so test and adjust the steering circuit before it gets worse.

Manual Section: Steering
Engine overheating in debris

Refuse cells throw plastic film and dust straight into the cooling package, and a blocked radiator will shut the machine down by mid-shift. The engine coverage helps you separate a dirty cooler from a genuine cooling system fault.

Manual Section: Engine
Hydraulic oil running hot

Overheated or contaminated oil takes pumps and motors with it. Pressure checks against the correct test points tell you whether the heat is coming from a worn component or a relief valve working overtime.

Manual Section: Hydraulic system
No start and intermittent electrical faults

Vibration and a corrosive landfill atmosphere are hard on connectors, relays and grounds. Chasing an intermittent fault without the wiring documentation wastes a shift; with it you can test circuit by circuit instead of swapping parts.

Manual Section: Electrics

Frequently Asked Questions

Which machines does this manual cover?

The Bomag BC 672 RB-4, BC 772 RB-4, BC 772 RS-4 and BC 772 EB-4 refuse compactors, from serial numbers 101 570 04 1001, 101 570 02 1001, 101 570 03 1001 and 101 570 94 1001 respectively. If your serial number falls in these ranges, this is your book.

Is this an operator's handbook or a repair manual?

It is the factory Service Manual, OEM publication 008 925 84, written for mechanics performing testing, adjustment and repair. At 1100 pages it goes well beyond daily operation and maintenance.

Can I diagnose a travel drive problem with it?

Yes. As the service manual for these compactors it covers the drive system, so loss of travel, weak climbing power and wheel motor faults can be worked through methodically instead of by parts swapping.

What engine and power does the Bomag BC 672 RB-4, BC 772 RB-4, BC 772 RS-4 and BC 772 EB-4 use?

All four models share a Mercedes Benz/MTU OM 471 LA, a 6-cylinder, fluid-cooled diesel rated at 340 kW (ISO 9249) / 456 hp (SAE J 1349), per page 75 of the manual. Rated speed is 1700 rpm at a 12800 cm³ displacement, per page 90.

What are the fuel and AdBlue tank capacities on the Bomag BC 672 RB-4, BC 772 RB-4, BC 772 RS-4 and BC 772 EB-4?

The fuel tank holds 500 l (132 gal us), per page 77 of the manual. The AdBlue/DEF tank is separate at 95 l (25 gal us), per page 101, so don't top off the wrong one at fill-up.

What is the operating weight of the Bomag BC 672 RB-4?

CECE operating weight is 32600 kg (71871 lbs), rising to a maximum of 33200 kg (73193 lbs) with attachments, per page 75 of the manual. Keep both figures handy when you're checking transport limits or wheel loading on this compactor.
