This is the factory service training book for the Bomag BF 300 C road finisher with the S340 vibrating screed and track drive - the course Bomag ran for its own techs, not a bolt-by-bolt repair manual, and it says so up front. What you get is what matters for diagnosis: system descriptions for the material hopper, augers, scraper belts, screed and travel drive, a Tests and Adjustments chapter with real pressure tests, a dedicated Input Codes chapter for the display, and replacement procedures for the ESX control, travel pumps and E-throttle actuator. Over 700 pages are E-Plan wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics. Engine coverage is the 4-cylinder Kubota V 3307 T, 55.4 kW at 2200 rpm.

Bomag BF 300 C Common Problems This Manual Covers

Machine crabs, creeps or loses travel power after a pump or ESX replacement

Follow the Hydraulics chapter for the A4VG28 EP travel pump and EP proportional solenoid control, then run the automatic calibration of travel system currents from the Input Codes chapter. Skipping the calibration after replacing a travel pump or the ESX control is the classic cause of a paver that still pulls to one side.

Manual Section: Hydraulics / Input Codes / Replacement of Components p. 179
Uneven material delivery, scraper belts stalling or augers starving the screed

Start with the Material Hopper chapter for the material flow overview covering scraper belts and augers, then verify hydraulics with the pressure test for the scraper belt in Tests and Adjustments. Rated figures to check against: auger at 100 rpm, scraper belt at 30 m/min. Worn feeder chains are the usual mechanical culprit.

Manual Section: Material Hopper / Tests and Adjustments p. 169
Weak, uneven or noisy vibration and tamping at the S340 screed

Tests and Adjustments carries the exact procedure set: checking and adjusting the vibration with its pressure test, plus checking and adjusting tamping with the pressure test for the 1/3 tamper system. The Vibrating Screed chapter covers the screed overview, drawing arms and the care work that keeps vibrator shaft bearings alive.

Manual Section: Tests and Adjustments / Vibrating Screed p. 225
Overheating, hard cold starts or a charge light that stays on

The Engine chapter handles the cooling side of the Kubota V 3307 T: coolant level check, thermostat removal, installation and testing in disassembled state, with the scalding warnings that belong there. For starting and warning-light faults, the Electrics chapter covers glow plugs R81-R84, coolant temperature switch B53, coolant float switch B55 and the charge control light.

Manual Section: Engine / Electrics p. 141

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual list fault codes for the BF 300 C display?

No, and be wary of anyone selling you a fault-code list for this machine. What the book documents is the Input Codes system (p.115-138): display functions, automatic calibration of travel system currents, teaching the E-throttle and L.C.S. functions, travel signal for max screed relief, and resetting to factory settings. That is the actual dealer-level procedure set you need after component swaps. p. 115

My paver has weak or one-sided travel drive. Will this book help me trace it?

Yes, this is where it earns its money. The Hydraulics chapter covers the A4VG28 EP travel pump and the A10VG28/45/56 EP variable displacement pumps, including the EP control with proportional solenoid and a connection overview. Replacement of Components walks the travel pump swap, and the Input Codes chapter gives the travel current calibration you must run afterward or the machine will still crab. p. 179

Is this a step-by-step repair manual with torque specs for every bolt?

No. It is the service training course: how each system works, wiring and hydraulic diagrams, test and adjustment procedures, and component replacement logic. Some hard numbers are in there (Kubota valve cover at 10 Nm, for example), but if you want a teardown sequence for every assembly, this is not that book. For diagnosis and electrics it beats a parts-swapping guess every time. p. 225

Can I actually read the wiring diagrams, or is it dealer shorthand?

The book teaches you the E-Plan format before throwing diagrams at you: how current paths are numbered, how potential and relay cross references work, and how to use the component list. That matters because the bulk of the volume is circuit diagrams, and once you can follow a relay cross reference you can chase a dead glow plug circuit or an ECOMODE fault without a laptop. p. 43

Which engine does it cover - I have heard Deutz mentioned for Bomag pavers?

Not this one. The BF 300 C runs the 4-cylinder Kubota V 3307 T, 55.4 kW (75 HP) at 2200 rpm, and the Engine chapter is written around it: coolant level checks, cooling system layout, thermostat removal, installation and bench testing in disassembled state. The Electrics chapter ties in the glow plugs R81-R84, oil pressure switch B06 and coolant temperature switch B53. p. 142
