Boom won't hold load, hydraulics sluggish, the 99-hp engine bogging down under lift. These 292 OEM pages map every circuit, seal spec, and fault procedure on the RS5-34 and RS6-34.

Gehl built the RS5-34 and RS6-34 around a 99-hp drivetrain and a 3000 PSI hydraulic system, and this OEM manual (#913241) documents both down to the seal. The 292 pages run from ground-level drivetrain to the full telescoping boom: electrical schematics paired with test and troubleshooting routines, hydraulic schematics for every cylinder circuit, and more than 100 pages of step-by-step work covering engine R&I, transmission, front and rear axle, hydraulic pump, frame leveling, tilt, lift, and boom extend cylinders. Wheel nuts land at 450 ft.-lbs. (610 Nm); size your hydraulic fittings off the standard torque table before you crack a single line. When a circuit fails, you stop guessing which cylinder or spool is at fault. Bookmark the section you need and read it at the machine.

Gehl RS5-34, RS6-34 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Hydraulic pump grinding under load, boom won't lift or extend p. 142

Check the hydraulic fluid level first. The reservoir holds 35 gal. and low fluid is the most common miss. Verify main system relief pressure at 3000 PSI (207 bar) using the test procedure on page 142. If pressure is low, inspect pump output and the main control valve spool for wear or internal bypass.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting & Tests
Engine cranks but won't start, or shuts down unexpectedly at full operating load p. 59

Start at the 29 gal. fuel tank, then work the electrical diagnostic chart on page 59 to test the fuel shut-off solenoid, ignition relay, and starter circuit in sequence. Replace any fuse or relay that won't hold continuity. On cold starts, a weak battery often mimics a fuel-delivery fault.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting & Tests
Machine drifts or won't respond to steering inputs in any steering mode p. 63

Inspect the steering control valve for internal leakage and verify the steering mode circuit is energized. Follow the steering mode circuit test on page 63 for switch, relay, and solenoid checks. With the engine running, confirm main system pressure is at 2000 PSI (138 bar) before condemning the control valve or steering cylinder.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting & Tests
Hydraulic fluid foaming, overheating, or return line making excessive noise at operating temperature p. 137

Drain and inspect the hydraulic fluid for water contamination or metallic debris. The reservoir holds 35 gal., so budget time for a full drain and refill if fluid is dark or foamy. Replace the 10-micron return filter. Check all suction-line fittings for air ingestion, since foamy fluid almost always means air is entering, not just heat buildup.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System
Boom slowly drifts down with a suspended load, hydraulic seepage visible at cylinder p. 210

Rebuild the boom lift cylinder using the Hydraulic Cylinder Repair procedure. Torque the cylinder rod nut to 450 ft.-lbs. (610 Nm) as specified on page 210 after replacing seals. Also test the main control valve for spool bypass: internal valve leakage causes identical drift symptoms even with new cylinder seals installed.
