This is the full factory service manual for the New Holland TC35, TC35D, TC40, TC40D, TC45 and TC45D compact tractors, the same repair information a dealer technician works from. It covers the whole tractor: the 3-cylinder diesel engine, the clutch and both the gear and hydrostatic (HST) transmissions, the driveline, the SuperSteer and SensiTrak four-wheel-drive front axle and the 2WD axle, the rear axle and mid and rear PTO, the brakes, the three-point hydraulic lift and remote valves, hydrostatic steering, the platform, and a full electrical section with the wiring diagrams. Every section carries the specifications, torques, fault finding and step-by-step overhaul procedures, so whether your tractor is 2WD or 4WD, gear or HST, you can put a fault right instead of guessing.

New Holland TC35, TC35D, TC40, TC40D, TC45, TC45D Common Problems This Manual Covers

Loss of hydraulic power or slow three-point lifting.

Usually a worn pump, low or contaminated oil or a stuck relief valve. The Hydraulic System section covers the lift and remote valve pressure tests and the pump overhaul with the settings to restore full lift performance.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System
Transmission slips or will not engage a gear.

Worn clutch components or synchro and gear wear are the usual causes. The Clutch and Gear Transmission sections cover the clutch adjustment, the synchro and gear inspection and the overhaul with the reassembly torques.

Manual Section: Gear Transmission
Engine overheats under load.

Usually a clogged radiator, a slipping fan belt or a tired water pump. The Engine section covers the cooling system checks, the thermostat test and the water pump and radiator service to stop the overheating.

Manual Section: Engine
Hydrostatic (HST) drive is weak, creeps in neutral or overheats.

A worn charge pump or a mis-adjusted neutral are the usual causes. The Hydrostatic Transmission section covers the charge pressure test, the neutral and linkage adjustment and the HST overhaul to restore drive and stop the creep.

Manual Section: Hydrostatic Transmission

Frequently Asked Questions

The three-point lift is slow or has lost power - what does the manual cover?

The Hydraulic System section covers the three-point hitch, the position and draft control and the remote valves with the pressure tests and the pump overhaul, so you can find a worn pump or a stuck valve behind the slow lift.

Does it cover both the gear and hydrostatic (HST) transmissions?

Yes. There are separate sections for the mechanical Gear Transmission and the Hydrostatic Transmission, each with the description and operation, neutral adjustment, fault diagnosis and full overhaul for whichever your tractor has.

Does the manual cover the SuperSteer and SensiTrak front axle?

Yes. The Four-Wheel Drive Front Axle section covers the SuperSteer and SensiTrak systems, the differential and final drives and the wheel hubs, with the description, fault diagnosis and overhaul.

Does this manual include the wiring diagrams for the TC35, TC40 and TC45?

Yes. The Electrical System section carries the wiring diagrams, the starting and charging systems, instruments, sensors and switches, so you can trace an electrical fault on the 2WD or 4WD models.

What power do these models make and how do they differ?

The TC35 makes 35 hp, the TC40 40 hp and the TC45 45 hp; the D suffix (TC35D, TC40D, TC45D) is the four-wheel-drive version. All are covered here in both gear and hydrostatic transmission forms.
