This is the factory workshop manual for the SAME Explorer 75, 85 and 95 (2004-2007), the SDF three-cylinder and four-cylinder utility tractors with the HML powershift unit. It covers the jobs an operator's book will not touch: splitting the tractor at the clutch housing, overhauling the hydraulic shuttle and HML unit, rebuilding the gearbox and range gearbox, and servicing every rear PTO variant - control clutch, 2-speed, 4-speed and groundspeed. You also get the full hydraulic side: steering circuit, services circuit, lift control valve and solenoid valves, plus front axle procedures and the complete braking chapter including separate-brakes valve, trailer braking valve and both hydraulic and air trailer braking systems. Disassembly, inspection and reassembly, step by step.

Same 75-95 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Shuttle takes up harshly or slips when reversing under load

Before splitting the tractor, work through the hydraulic shuttle inspection in the Transmission chapter. It covers pack teardown and the hydraulic supply side, so you can separate a worn clutch pack from a pressure or valve fault first.

Manual Section: Transmission - Hydraulic shuttle
HML powershift loses a range or shifts roughly between H, M and L

The Transmission chapter treats the HML unit as its own service subject with disassembly, inspection and reassembly. Rough shifts usually come down to pack wear or the control hydraulics, and the manual lets you check both in order.

Manual Section: Transmission - HML unit
Rear linkage drops, hunts or will not hold a set position

Follow the lift control valve procedures in the Hydraulic System chapter. It covers the valve itself plus the solenoid valves and services circuit feeding it, so you can trace whether the fault is the valve, a leak or the supply.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System - Lift control valve
Trailer brakes drag or the coupling pressure is wrong

Use the Braking System chapter, which covers the trailer braking valve and both hydraulic and air trailer braking installations. It gives the service procedures to strip and inspect the valve rather than swapping parts on suspicion.

Manual Section: Braking System - Trailer braking valve

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual cover splitting the tractor to get at the clutch?

Yes. The Transmission chapter walks through the clutch housing removal and refit, which is the split procedure you need for any clutch or shuttle work. On an Explorer this is a full day's job even with the manual, so having the correct sequence and what to support where matters.

My hydraulic shuttle is jerky or slipping in one direction. Will this help me diagnose it?

The Transmission section covers the hydraulic shuttle and the HML unit as separate service subjects, including teardown and inspection. That lets you check pack condition and the hydraulic feed side before you commit to a split, instead of guessing from the seat.

Which PTO versions are covered? Mine has the groundspeed option.

All of them. The Rear PTO chapter covers the PTO control clutch, the 2-speed, the 4-speed and the groundspeed PTO. These share the rear housing but the internals differ, so having the right variant documented saves you from ordering wrong parts.

Does it cover trailer brakes, including the air system?

Yes, the Braking System chapter covers the separate-brakes valve, the trailer braking valve, and both hydraulic and air trailer braking. If your tractor tows on the road and the trailer valve is weeping or the coupling pressure is off, this is the section you want.

Is this the workshop manual or the operator's handbook?

This is the repair manual, meant for actual disassembly and overhaul work on the driveline, hydraulics, axle and brakes. It is not the operator's book of daily checks and fluid intervals. If you plan to open the tractor up, this is the correct document.
