Charge pressure, exciter settings, steering play: 231 pages of factory adjustment values separate a Serie 4 tandem roller from guesswork, and this Bomag BW 141, BW 151 and BW 154 service training PDF (OEM 008 097 16) puts them in your hands. Hydraulic schematics trace the closed-loop travel pump, vibration circuit, steering pump and crab-walk valve; the electrical half is bigger still, module descriptions on pages 147-198 ahead of the wiring diagrams on pages 199-228 that run from the supply and starting unit to the sprinkler module and working lights. Troubleshooting tables for travel, vibration and steering end each fault at a test port and a number. Set the Deutz inlet valve clearance to 0,3 mm cold, then confirm 26 bar at the brake pressure test port before the roller rejoins the pass. Guessing at a relief valve setting costs a travel pump and a second teardown. These pages print clean; let the bench copy get greasy while the bookmarked original stays on your laptop.

Bomag BW 141–154 Series Common Problems This Manual Covers
Bomag BW 151 AD-4 shuts down, brake stays locked, no travel
Check the brake solenoid wiring for a broken line first. Test brake pressure at the port shown on page 62: 26 bar is normal, with the relief valve set at 37 bar. Measure solenoid voltage, 12 V open and 0 V closed, then repair the harness before replacing the solenoid.
Manual Section: Travel Drive 141/151-4 p. 62Machine does not travel in either direction or creeps forward in neutral with engine running
Check charge pressure first at the test port on page 60; you need 26 bar before the travel loop will do anything. If charge is good, work through the travel system troubleshooting chart on page 64, and inspect the pump control linkage for neutral misadjustment if the roller creeps with the lever centered.
Manual Section: Travel Drive 141/151-4 p. 64No vibration on either drum or only one amplitude available after switching on
Test vibration pressure at port MM between the motors on page 103; pressure climbing toward the max. 380 bar with no drum shake points to a seized exciter bearing. Check the high pressure valves, fixed at 405 bar on page 102, and test the vibration shut-off valve before pulling a motor off the drum.
Manual Section: Vibration p. 103Engine down on power, hard starting, black smoke under load on the Deutz
Set valve clearances on a cold engine, 0.3 mm intake and 0.5 mm exhaust, following the procedure on page 26. Test injection valve opening pressure at 210 bar, and torque the injection pump fasteners to 21 Nm on reassembly per page 33. Change the oil while you are in there; the sump holds 13 L.
Manual Section: Deutz Diesel Engine p. 26Hydraulic oil overheating on long vibratory passes, cooling blower slow or not turning
Check the blower first; the thermostat valve on page 134 opens at 55°C, so a hot tank with a lazy blower points to that valve or the blower motor. Work through the blower drive checks starting on page 130, clean the cooler fins, and verify oil level; the hydraulic tank holds 60 L.
Manual Section: Blower Drive p. 134Frequently Asked Questions
What is the correct intake and exhaust valve clearance for the Deutz BF4M 2011 engine?
The correct valve clearance for a cold engine (oil temperature <80°C) is 0.3 mm for the intake valve and 0.5 mm for the exhaust valve. If the cylinder head gasket has been recently replaced, these values increase to 0.4 mm for the intake and 0.6 mm for the exhaust. p. 26
What is the tightening torque for the injection pump nuts?
When assembling the injection pump, it must be pressed centrically against the stop and the nuts tightened to a torque of 21 Nm. p. 33
What is the engine oil capacity for the BW 141-154 AD/AC-4 series?
The engine oil capacity for these machines is 13 liters, excluding the oil filter. p. 15
What is the required hydraulic oil capacity for the hydraulic system?
The hydraulic system requires approximately 60 liters of hydraulic oil (HVLP 46 VI 150). p. 15
What is the high pressure relief valve setting for the travel pump?
The high pressure relief valve for the travel pump is set to 440 bar. p. 43
