When a BW 154 AP AM drops vibration mid-mat, you want the book Bomag wrote for it: this Bomag BW 154 AP AM service manual PDF, factory document 008 915 33, runs 758 pages for the BW 154 AP AM tandem vibratory roller from S/N 101 870 60 up. Pressure tests in the travel and vibration circuits come with test-port locations, and the hydraulic diagram plus wiring diagrams at the back trace every circuit the Asphalt Manager touches. Drum teardown runs from pulling the AP-AM drum through reassembling the exciter unit, with flushing and bleeding procedures for both closed-loop circuits. Verify the travel pump against its rated 138 l/min flow and 63 cm3/rev displacement before you condemn it. Swapping a good pump on a hunch costs a week; twenty minutes at the test ports costs nothing. Bookmarked and text-searchable, this PDF puts the circuit diagrams two clicks from the cover.

Bomag BW 154 AP AM Common Problems This Manual Covers

Bomag BW 154 AP AM weak or no drum vibration at full throttle, amplitude feels dead on the mat

Test the vibration circuit pressures using the procedures in the Tests and Adjustments section starting on page 49. Operating pressure should hold near 100 bar under load, with starting pressure peaking at 360 bar (page 32). If pressure stays low, inspect the vibration control valve Y54/Y55 coil and spool (page 499) before condemning the pump.

Manual Section: Tests and Adjustments p. 49
Roller creeps or won't travel in either direction, engine runs fine at full rpm

Check charge pressure first: it should read 25 bar at high idle (page 32). Low charge pressure points to a clogged charge filter or worn steering/charge pump, and the closed-loop travel pump will not stroke without it. Then run the travel circuit pressure tests from page 49; high pressure limitation is set at 380 bar.

Manual Section: Tests and Adjustments p. 49
Vibration motor noisy and running hot, drum amplitude drops off partway through the pass

Measure the vibration motor case drain flow with a flow meter; anything over 1.5 litre/min means the rotary group is worn (page 76). Verify operating pressure still holds near 100 bar under load (page 32). If leakage exceeds the limit, pull the motor and reseal or replace it using the suppliers documentation starting on page 503.

Manual Section: Tests and Adjustments p. 76
Hydraulic oil dark, foamy, or full of metal after a pump failure, whole system sluggish

Drain the system completely and check the old oil for metal particles, foam, and sludge before hanging a new pump. Flush the travel circuit following the flushing schematic starting on page 81, then bleed it thoroughly. Replace every filter and refill with 50 litres of HV46 hydraulic oil (page 40); one pass of dirty oil kills a new pump.

Manual Section: Flushing and Bleeding p. 81
Hydraulic oil weeping from hose fittings and connections, drips showing up under the machine

Wipe each suspect fitting dry, run the machine, and watch for the fresh trace. Retorque O-ring sealed fittings to spec: 5/8 inch fittings take 13.6 to 20.3 Nm, 7/8 inch take 35.3 to 42.0 Nm (page 357). Replace any hose kinked tighter than its minimum bend radius, 50 mm for NW8 line, then top the tank back up.

Manual Section: Maintenance p. 40
