Safety rules, rated capacity charts, operating controls, preventive maintenance, options and specifications run end to end through the 111-page Ingersoll-Rand VR723 operator manual PDF (OEM ID 22806475), which applies to both the VR723 and VR530C telescopic handlers. Rated capacity charts show what the boom is rated to lift, and the operating chapter explains your controls and indicators, the multi-function dial, the right console and the boom function control joystick. Preventive maintenance sets out service intervals, maintenance safety and air filter care, while the options chapter handles cab air conditioning and the fan control switch. Hold frame leveling to 6 degrees left or right. The fuel tank takes 140 litres. Refitting a wheel calls for the 300 Nm wheel nut tightening torque, listed for both models. Bookmarks take you to any chapter in one tap, and the text layer lets you search a term such as 'air filter' directly.

Ingersoll-Rand VR723, VR530C Common Problems This Manual Covers

Ingersoll-Rand VR723 diesel engine will not start in cold weather at morning startup

Verify the direction lever is in neutral and the parking brake is set, and start only from the operator seat; never jump across starter terminals (page 26). Hold the switch in PREHEAT for 15 seconds, and never leave it in START longer than thirty seconds before preheating again (page 50). Do not use ether or starting fluids. Move the machine to a warmer area instead, per page 17.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting (Cold Weather Starting) p. 17
Engine oil pressure indicator light stays on more than five seconds after startup

Turn off the engine right away if the oil pressure indicator light does not go out 5 seconds after starting; page 68 says not to let it idle that way. Check the engine oil level and top up to the correct level before restarting. Engine oil capacity is 8.5 litres on page 110. Restart, let it idle, and confirm the light goes out.

Manual Section: Preventive Maintenance p. 68
Engine overheating with coolant level below the MIN mark on the surge tank

Check the coolant on flat ground; the level must sit between the MAX and MIN marks on the surge tank (page 68). Never open the surge tank plug when coolant is hotter than 20°C, and never open the radiator while hot (page 26). Test concentration against the factory 50% mix and add only premixed solution. Verify alternator belt movement of 8 mm with 15 lbs force, per page 69.

Manual Section: Engine Cooling System Troubleshooting p. 68
Electrical function goes dead after a fuse blows in the cab right hand console

Find the cause of the electrical overload before starting the engine again, as page 70 requires. Check the fuses in the right hand cab console and the engine compartment, and replace any faulty fuse, diode or relay immediately, even if its function seems minor. Check battery fluid and top up only with distilled water to the lower edge of the inner tube. Remember the battery contains acid.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 70
Hydraulic fluid leaking at hoses, fittings or front auxiliary quick couplers with wet residue visible

Inspect for leaks with a piece of cardboard or wood, never your bare hand, and wear safety goggles; pressurized fluid can penetrate skin (page 44). Couplers and fittings run hot, so handle them carefully. Before disconnecting auxiliary hoses, lower the boom to the ground, unload the attachment, stop the engine and move the lever to RELEASE PRESSURE (page 26). Top up the tank; capacity is 77 litres per page 110.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
No.2 diesel fuel gelling in the tank during cold weather operation below +15°F

Fill with fuel blended by temperature following page 66: 100% No.2 above +15°F (-9°C), 50% No.1 and 50% No.2 down to -20°F (-29°C), and 100% No.1 below that. Replace the fuel filter cartridge by unscrewing it, collecting the fuel that runs out, and tightening the new cartridge by hand. Clean up spilled fuel and keep it away from flames.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why will the boom not extend, retract, lift, or lower?

The boom functions may be deactivated if the Aggravating Movements Arrester (AMA) system is active, which prohibits movements when the load reaches 76% of capacity. Additionally, ensure the hydraulics control lockout switch on the right console is in the down position to activate hydraulic functions, as the up position deactivates them for road travel. p. 40

What are the replacement specifications for engine oil and filters on the Ingersoll-Rand VR723, VR530C?

The engine oil capacity is 2.3 gallons (8.5 liters). You should drain and change the oil and filter according to the maintenance interval table, which specifies the first change after 50 hours and then periodically as indicated. p. 110

How do I adjust the alternator belt tension?

The alternator belt tension is measured on the strand between the crankshaft and the alternator. Move the alternator until the belt has 5/16 inch (8 mm) of movement at the middle of the span when 15 lbs of force is applied. p. 69

How do I relieve hydraulic pressure at the boom head on an Ingersoll-Rand VR723, VR530C?

To relieve pressure for easier connection of hydraulic lines, stop the engine and lower the boom completely. Press the switch on the right console (shown in Figure 108) down to the unstable position for a moment to release the pressure. p. 86

What is the wheel nut tightening torque for the Ingersoll-Rand VR723, VR530C telescopic handler?

The tightening torque for the wheel nuts on the machine is 221 ft.-lbs. (300 Nm). p. 75
