The swing has gone lazy, the boom stalls under load, or the monitor just threw a code and the crew is standing around. This Kobelco SK350-9 service manual covers Tier 4 machines from serial YC12U2400 up. It was issued in July 2011 and covers the whole machine, from the Hino engine to the track links.
Guessing wrong on an excavator this size costs real money. Buy a control valve for what turns out to be a solenoid fault and you pay for the part and lose the day. Pull a swing motor when the relief only needed setting and you tear it down twice.
The book has the pressure test procedures, mechatro code checks, hydraulic circuits and the Hino J08E-UV engine chapters. Prove what failed, then order the right part the first time.

Kobelco SK350-9 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Every function is slow or weak and someone is already pricing a main control valve
Before you buy a valve, run the engine speed and hydraulic pressure checks in Maintenance Standard and Test Procedure. Compare them to the performance inspection table. Then trace the circuit in Hydraulic System and Circuit Diagrams. If the 8-spool valve really is at fault, Upper Slewing Structure: Disassembling and Assembling covers taking it apart.
Manual Section: Maintenance Standard and Test Procedure p. 91A function drops out, comes back, and the monitor shows a code
Intermittent dropouts usually come from the pilot control circuit, a solenoid or a harness, not from the valve body. Look up the code in Troubleshooting by Error Codes and run its checks. Use the eight-sheet electric circuit diagram and the harness drawings to find the connector. The Mechatro Controller chapter explains what the controller expects to see.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting by Error Codes p. 754Swing is slow, noisy or drifts on a slope
Measure swing speed against the 10.0 rpm spec on page 26 using the swing performance tests in Maintenance Standard and Test Procedure. Hydraulic Components explains how the swing motor works, so you can separate a pressure problem from worn internals. Upper Slewing Structure: Disassembling and Assembling covers the rebuild if the motor has to come out.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting by Trouble p. 848Engine runs hot under load and the radiator is getting blamed
Test the thermostat before you order a radiator. Page 29 says it starts opening at 350 K (170°F) and is fully open at 363 K (194°F). Check the V-belt as well, because the 850 mm suction fan is belt driven. The cooling system procedures are in Hino J08E-UV Engine: Mechanical, Exhaust, Cooling, Lubrication.
Manual Section: Hino J08E-UV Engine: Mechanical, Exhaust, Cooling, Lubrication p. 29Frequently Asked Questions
Does the manual explain the mechatro error codes that show up on the SK350-9 monitor?
Yes. Troubleshooting by Error Codes lists the mechatro codes in the A215 / D013 format and gives the checks to run for each one. It also shows what each blown fuse looks like from the seat. Hino engine codes have their own diagnosis-code chapter. The book does not give a procedure for clearing codes from the cab, so fix the cause and check that the code stays gone. p. 754
My swing is slow or weak. Do I need a new swing motor?
Not always, and a swing motor is an expensive thing to guess on. Start with the swing performance and hydraulic pressure checks in Maintenance Standard and Test Procedure. Compare your reading to the 10.0 rpm swing speed on page 26. Then work through the swing tables in Troubleshooting by Trouble. If the motor does have to come out, Upper Slewing Structure: Disassembling and Assembling covers the teardown. p. 26
Does it cover the Hino J08E-UV engine and DPR regeneration?
It does, across five engine sections: fuel and emission, mechanical overhaul, cooling, lubrication, starter, alternator and turbocharger. The failure diagnosis section includes the engine diagnosis codes and DPR forced regeneration. Page 29 has the numbers you set by hand: intake valve clearance 0.3 mm and exhaust 0.45 mm, both cold. It also gives compression of 3.4 to 3.7 MPa at 280 min⁻¹ and the firing order 1-4-2-6-3-5. p. 29
Will this manual match my machine?
It's written for the Tier 4 SK350-9 with the Hino J08E-UV engine, serial YC12U2400 and higher. Read the serial plate before you buy. If your number is below YC12U2400, this book wasn't written for your machine. The emissions and mechatro chapters are where a mismatch would hurt most. p. 1
What are the transport dimensions for hauling it on a lowboy?
Page 24 has the transport drawing. With the 6.50 m boom, 3.30 m arm and 1.40 m³ bucket, the machine weighs 36,600 kg for transport. It measures 11,200 mm long and 4,095 mm high, and 3,390 mm wide on 800 mm shoes. The drawing assumes a 1,080 mm trailer bed height, so check your trailer against it. p. 24
