Komatsu's own publication number, WEAM000904, marks this 253-page Komatsu WB140-2, WB150-2 operator manual PDF as the factory Operation and Maintenance Manual for both backhoe-loaders. Operating chapters fill more than a quarter of the book: instrument and control layouts, fuse and relay positions, loader and excavator work methods, bucket changes, cold-season precautions, and lifting capacity data for the two models. Maintenance takes up another quarter, set out as a plan running from pre-start checks through 10, 50, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 hour intervals, with lubrication diagrams for the telescopic arm, pallet forks and quick couplings, plus separate intervals if you run a demolition hammer. Change your engine oil filter and fuel filter every 500 hours, and set rear wheel nuts to 500 ± 9.8 Nm, front to 350 ± 9.8 Nm. Invented wheel nut torques shear studs and drop wheels. Bookmarked and text-searchable, the PDF travels on your phone or laptop to wherever the machine is working.

Komatsu WB140-2, WB150-2 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Komatsu WB140-2 and WB150-2 backhoe starter cranks engine slowly with key in START position
Charge the battery first, since the chart on page 147 lists insufficient battery charge ahead of a faulty starter. Before touching the battery, stop the engine, remove the ignition key, then rotate the battery disconnection switch counterclockwise and remove it (page 36). Wear goggles and gloves when working on the battery (page 145). Keep naked flames, smoking and sparks away from the battery (page 145). If cranking stays slow, have your Komatsu Dealer change the starter.
Manual Section: Electrical Circuit Troubleshooting p. 147Engine oil pressure warning light stays on even with engine at high speed
Check the oil level in the oil pan with the engine stopped, and top off if it is low, following the engine chart on page 149. If the level is correct, change the oil filter, which is due every 500 hours (page 174). Then confirm the oil suits the season, and change the oil if it does not.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 149Steam comes out of the radiator breather pipe while the machine is working
Check coolant only after the engine cools to about 40-45°C (104-113°F), then loosen the radiator cap slowly to release pressure (page 209). Top off and repair leaks, check fan belt tension, clean damaged or blocked radiator fins, and tighten or change a loose cap. For mud or limestone, wash the 14 L circuit per pages 209-210 with safety locks engaged and parking brake applied. Have your Komatsu Dealer change a faulty thermostat.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 149Engine does not start with the starter running after a fuel filter change or empty tank
Refuel with the engine stopped and no smoking nearby (page 23), then bleed the fuel supply circuit following page 194. Loosen the filter head drain screw (12 mm wrench) and work the fuel pump knob until fuel flows without air bubbles. Tighten the screw, then press and tighten the knob. Wipe up spilled fuel immediately to prevent fire. Crank no longer than 15 seconds (page 195). Still no start? Have your Komatsu Dealer adjust valve clearance.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 149Hydraulic work equipment moves only at low speed when operating the control levers
Change the dirty drain filter first. On page 147 it is the only cause listed that the operator can fix. Let hot oil cool before you open anything, because the hot oil warning on page 51 applies. If the equipment is still slow, stop and call your Komatsu Dealer. A faulty pump, or max pressure valves that are out of rating or held open by impurities, needs dealer repair, calibration or replacement.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 147Torque converter system overheating, with the machine showing a lack of power
Check the torque converter oil level and top off. Then clean a dirty heat exchanger, or change it if it is damaged, as listed on page 148. If overheating continues, contact your Komatsu Dealer. Damaged rings mean the unit has to be removed, disassembled and reassembled; a faulty pump has to be changed. If low engine rpm is causing stall speed, the dealer needs to check and set the engine governor.
Manual Section: Torque Converter System Troubleshooting p. 148Frequently Asked Questions
What are the engine oil filter replacement specifications for the Komatsu WB140-2, WB150-2?
The engine oil filter is a cartridge-type filter that must be replaced every 500 hours of operation. When changing the filter (procedure on page 192), ensure the contact surface is clean, lubricate the gasket, and tighten it by hand, then give it another half turn. p. 156
What is the torque spec for the front and rear wheel nuts on a Komatsu WB140-2, WB150-2 backhoe loader?
The specific tightening torque for the front wheel nuts is 350 ± 9.8 Nm (258 ± 7.4 lb ft), and for the rear wheel nuts, it is 500 ± 9.8 Nm (369 ± 7.4 lb ft). p. 171
What is the correct fan belt tension for the engine?
The fan belt tension should be adjusted so that pressing the belt with a thumb at the indicated point with a force of approximately 98 N (22 lb) results in a deflection of 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 in). p. 186
What is the required engine oil capacity for the WB140-2 aspirated engine?
The engine oil capacity for the WB140-2 aspirated engine is 7.9 liters (2.08 US gal) for both the first filling and subsequent oil changes. p. 157
How do you adjust the brake pedal stroke?
To adjust the brake pedal stroke, set the pedals to measure 'A' = 325 mm (12.8 in) using the rubber pads, then to 306 mm (12 in) by adjusting the microswitches, and finally to 294 mm (11.6 in) by adjusting the brake pump rods until they touch the pistons. p. 214
