A hose lets go mid-harvest, the rotor quits and the combine sits dead in the stubble with the hydrostatic pumps back in neutral. This is the Massey Ferguson 9695 and 9795 Workshop Service Manual, publication 4283358M1, with all 12 chapters in one PDF.

It covers the feeder house and feed reverser, the rotor and concaves, the cleaning shoe, the grain tank and unloading auger, both axles, hydraulics, electrical, electronics and the cab. The engine chapter covers only the drives, cooling and fuel systems, not an internal rebuild. It includes hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams for each subsystem and the Console II calibration pages.

A lot of repairs stall with a final drive hanging off the axle and nobody sure of the bolt torque. The numbers are in here, so you can get the combine cutting again while the weather holds.

Massey Ferguson 9695, 9795 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Rotor plugged solid with crop

Use the rotor reverse button to run the rotor backward and work the plug loose, rather than forcing it forward against the blockage. The Threshing and Separating chapter covers the rotor, rotor gearbox and concaves. Check them over once it's clear.

Manual Section: Threshing and Separating p. 2181
Steering feels spongy or wanders after hydraulic work

Air got into the steering cylinder system when lines were opened. Follow the steering cylinder bleeding procedure in the Hydraulics chapter until the wheel feels firm again. The hydraulic schematics in the same chapter show how the steering cylinders are plumbed, so you can trace every line you touched.

Manual Section: Hydraulics p. 948
Refilling and restarting after a burst hose

Replace the hose and refill with Permatran 821XL. The full system takes 90.8 liters with the standard rear axle or 97.6 liters with power rear wheel drive, and the reservoir holds 31.4 liters. Before you load it up again, use the Hydraulics troubleshooting tables and the rotor and propel pump schematic to confirm charge pressure has come back.

Manual Section: Hydraulics / Specifications p. 150
Thresher won't stay engaged even with the operator seated

First rule out the normal seat switch dropout by sitting down and cycling the thresher switch off and back on. If it still drops out, go to the thresher clutch pages and wiring diagrams in the Electrical chapter. Check the power distribution and ground diagrams before you replace any parts.

Manual Section: Electrical p. 2341

Frequently Asked Questions

A hydraulic hose burst and now the combine won't move and the rotor stopped. What happened?

Losing charge pressure makes the hydrostatic pumps destroke to neutral, so drive and rotor both stop. Shut the engine down right away. If it keeps running with the oil gone, it can damage the charge pump and the hydrostatic pumps. The Hydraulics chapter has the rotor and propel pump schematic and the troubleshooting tables. p. 107

Why does the thresher clutch drop out on its own?

Usually it's the seat switch. The thresher disengages eight seconds after the operator leaves the seat. To re-engage it, sit down and push the thresher switch off and back on. If it still drops out while you're seated, the Electrical chapter covers the thresher clutch circuit. p. 1900

What oil goes in the rotor gearbox and final drives, and how much?

The rotor gearbox takes 4.0 liters (8.0 pt.) of SAE 85W-90 API-GL-5. Each final drive takes 5.68 liters (6 qt.) of SAE EP 80-90 gear oil. The full hydraulic system takes Permatran 821XL. That's 90.8 liters with the standard rear axle or 97.6 liters with power rear wheel drive. p. 150

What are the wheel and final drive torque values for the Massey Ferguson 9695, 9795?

Front wheel to final drive flange is 813 Nm (600 lbf ft.). Inner dual to outer dual is 542 Nm (400 lbf ft.). Power rear axle wheel to drive motor flange is 406 Nm (300 lbf ft.). Final drive to drive axle is 1627 Nm (1200 lbf ft.). The Specifications chapter also has the standard and special torque charts. p. 148

Does this manual cover a full engine overhaul on the Sisu?

No. The 9695 spec section lists the Sisu 84CTA Tier III 8.4L, a turbocharged and charge air cooled inline six. The engine chapter covers only the drives, cooling package and fuel system around it. There are no piston, crankshaft or cylinder head rebuild procedures in this book. p. 150
