This 577-page Takeuchi TB014, TB016 Workshop Manual puts the complete factory data for both Compact Excavator models in your hands, from the drive system to the TNV(IDI) engine section. Inside you get full wiring diagrams for the electric circuit, hydraulic schematics covering the pump, control valve, solenoid valves, and travel motor, plus a dedicated troubleshooting section for boom, arm, bucket, and slew faults. Torque tables and servicing standards back every procedure, so you're not eyeballing clearances or guessing at fastener specs. Set the 1/2-inch hydraulic hose union nut to 58.8 N-m, and confirm no leakage after assembly at 5 to 6 times working pressure before you button it up. No more chasing a hydraulic fault with a pressure gauge and a hunch. This PDF carries bookmarked navigation and a searchable text layer, so you can jump straight from the contents page to the exact hydraulic or wiring section, download it, and take it to the machine.

Takeuchi TB014 & TB016 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Takeuchi TB014 hydraulic hose or steel pipe leaks at the fitting shortly after reassembly

Check that the seal seats snugly in the joint before final assembly per page 18 specs, which call for no leakage at all. Torque the union nut to spec (9.8 to 137.3 N·m depending on size per page 19), then cycle the system to maximum working pressure 5 to 6 times to seat the seal and confirm the fitting holds under load.

Manual Section: I . General p. 18
Grease discharge valve won't expel grease even with the pump running

Do not attempt to disassemble the valve under pressure; trapped grease can eject the internals with enough force to injure you. Relieve system pressure first, then check for a blocked line between the pump and the valve. If the valve itself is suspect, replace it as an assembly and torque it to 177 N·m on reinstall per page 50.

Manual Section: I . General p. 50
Engine cranks but won't start or fires rough in cold weather

Work the troubleshooting chart in order: confirm fuel is present, then check for air or water in the fuel system and a clogged fuel filter before touching the injection pump. Test injection nozzle opening pressure and confirm it falls within 11.8 to 12.8 MPa (page 489); a nozzle below that range sprays poorly and won't fire cleanly on cold start. Never use ether or starting fluid, it can ignite trapped vapor and cause an explosion.

Manual Section: Sm-E2B Series
No hydraulic functions respond even though the engine is running fine

Start with the oil, not the pump: pull the dipstick and confirm the tank is filled to the 33 L total system capacity (page 41 on TB014, 33.5 L on TB016). Low oil starves the pump and mimics a coupling failure. If the level is correct, move to the pump and coupling checks on pages 262 through 264 before pulling any valves.

Manual Section: V . Troubleshooting p. 262
Machine travels in a curve instead of straight, or one track lags the other

Check crawler tension first; rubber track sag outside 100 to 115 mm throws off tracking and reads like a motor fault. Follow that with the spool operation, main relief valve, and swivel joint checks on pages 270 to 271 before condemning the travel motor speed reducer, which is the most expensive part in that chain.

Manual Section: V . Troubleshooting p. 270
Boom cylinder won't move even though other functions work fine

Isolate the fault by testing the other actuators first; if they move fine, the problem is downstream of the shared supply. Verify pilot valve supply pressure, then check spool operation and the port relief valve setting per the sequence on pages 284 to 285 before pulling the boom cylinder itself for internal bypass.

Manual Section: V . Troubleshooting p. 284

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the torque specs for hydraulic bolts on Takeuchi TB014?

For Takeuchi TB014 hydraulic hoses, the tightening torque for a 1/8 inch Union Nut (G) is 9.8 +4.9 N·m (7.3 +3.5 ft-lb). For a 1/8 inch Taper Thread (R) fitting, the torque is 11.8 ±1.2 N·m (8.7 ±0.8 ft-lb). p. 19

How to reset the hydraulic pressure on Takeuchi TB016?

To reset (adjust) the hydraulic pressure on the Takeuchi TB016, loosen the locknut (2) and turn the setting screw (1). Turning clockwise raises the pressure, while turning counterclockwise lowers it. After adjustment, hold the setting screw firmly and tighten the locknut. p. 58

How to reset hydraulic system on Takeuchi TB014?

To reset the hydraulic system on the Takeuchi TB014 after maintenance, first bleed the air by removing the vent plug on the hydraulic pump, filling oil until it overflows, and then operating cylinders 4-5 times at slow and full engine speeds. After bleeding, ensure tank pressurization by extending all cylinders, closing the filler inlet, and then operating the engine. p. 126

What are the replacement specifications for Hydraulic hoses and steel pipes?

Hydraulic hoses and steel pipes should be replaced if they are twisted, bent, or cracked, as these conditions can cause them to burst. During installation, tighten fittings to the prescribed torque (e.g., 9.8 +4.9 N·m for a 1/8 inch hydraulic hose union nut) and use two spanners to prevent twisting. After installation, apply maximum working pressure 5 or 6 times to confirm no leakage. p. 14
