Hydrostatic drive work is the hardest chapter in this 250-page Cameco CH3500 repair manual PDF, which takes the charge pump, the variable displacement wheel motor and the fixed displacement track motor right down to piston rings, valve segment and cylinder block. Beyond that, the harvester book works through the final drive gearbox and brake check, track wear charts, steering relief and priority valves, front axle toe-in, and the topper, crop divider and feed roller systems. Exploded views support the repair chapters. Replace a gear housing worn past 0.13 mm (0.005 in), and reject a drive shaft with more than 0.05 mm (0.002 in) of wear. For a multiple gear pump reassembly, your stud nut figure is 272 Nm (200 lb-ft), applied in a cross pattern. Bookmarks jump to the CH3500 specialty tools and part numbers list, so you order the correct tool number the first time, and the crisp digital pages print cleanly.

Cameco CH3500 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Cameco CH3500 steering system slow or hard to turn with loss of power assist

Check the steering relief valve setting following page 124 against 172 bar (2500 PSI) and adjust it if pressure reads low. Then work through the slow steering, hard steering and loss of power assist entries on page 129. Repair the relief valve and priority valve where the steering section directs.

Manual Section: Steering System Troubleshooting p. 129
Front axle toe-in out of adjustment and the harvester steering wandering or drifting

Check the wandering and drift entries in the steering troubleshooting on page 129 first to rule out other steering causes. Measure front axle toe-in following page 135 against the 6.35 mm (1/4 in) specification, then adjust the steering linkage until toe-in sits on spec. Recheck the measurement after adjusting, before the harvester goes back to the field.

Manual Section: Front Axle Toe-In Adjustment p. 135
Steering cylinder needs inspection when the harvester shows steering drift or slip

Remove the steering cylinder and disassemble it following page 133, then inspect every part before reassembly. Assemble the cylinder per the same procedure and torque the female socket clamping screw to 68-95 N·m (50-70 lb-ft) as listed on page 134. Confirm drift or slip is gone using the steering troubleshooting checks on page 129.

Manual Section: Steering Cylinder Repair p. 133
Multiple gear pump showing wear on gear housing, drive shaft or thrust plate at teardown

Measure gear housing cutout wear following page 113 and replace either housing with wear beyond 0.13 mm (0.005 in). Check the drive shaft and the thrust plate against the 0.05 mm (0.002 in) maximum allowable wear. On reassembly, confirm there is no internal binding, then cross-torque the stud nuts to 272 Nm (200 lb-ft) per page 115.

Manual Section: Main Hydraulic System p. 113
Elevator chain tension out of adjustment with the chain running loose on the elevator

Adjust elevator chain tension following the Chain Adjustment procedure in the Elevator System section on page 232. Loosen the bolts securing the frame assembly, then adjust both chains equally until the correct tension is obtained, keeping the head and tail shafts parallel. Measure the chain at the open section on the bottom of the elevator: the correct tension is 25 mm (1 inch) of play on the tightest chain. Retighten the locknuts and all other bolts afterwards.

Manual Section: Elevator System Chain Adjustment p. 232
John Deere 6081 engine oil and fuel filters overdue at the preliminary service interval

Drain the engine oil and replace the oil filter and the fuel filter at the preliminary service intervals listed on page 8. Fill the engine with 29.5 liters (31 US quarts) of oil per the specifications on page 7. Record the change on your service log so the next interval lands on time during harvest.

Manual Section: Engine Preliminary Service Intervals p. 8

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the correct service intervals and recommended fluids for a Cameco CH3500?

The engine oil and fuel filters should be changed after the first 100 hours of operation, and every 250 hours thereafter. The recommended engine coolant is John Deere Prediluted Antifreeze/Summer Coolant or John Deere Cool-Gard. For the hydraulic system, use SAE 10W30 motor oil, and for the gearboxes (pump drive, chopper box, and basecutter), use 85W140 multigrade oil meeting MIL-L-2105C or API GL-5 specifications. p. 8

What are the replacement specifications for the fuel-water separator and fuel filters on the Cameco CH3500?

The primary fuel element is part number RE503676 (washable screen), and the final fuel element is part number RE509596. p. 8

What is the torque specification for the door latch striker bolt on the Cameco CH3500?

The door latch striker bolt should be tightened to 80 Nm (60 lb-ft). p. 38

What is the capacity of the hydraulic oil tank on the CH3500?

The hydraulic oil tank has an approximate capacity of 405 liters (107 US gallons). p. 9

How do I adjust the front axle toe-in on the CH3500?

To adjust the toe-in, turn the complete cylinder assembly clockwise until you have moved the front of the tire 1/8 inch inward. Ensure you disconnect the two hydraulic hoses going to the steering cylinder before making this adjustment and reconnect them afterward. p. 136

Is this Cameco CH3500 manual a PDF I download?

All 250 pages arrive as one non-searchable PDF at checkout. Read it at the desk, then take the phone out to the machine.
