From the bevel gearbox through the reversing gearbox, blower, feed rolls, cutterhead, shear bar, and Metalert II electrical system, this New Holland 900 service manual PDF (OEM 40090013) works the forage harvester's whole driveline end to end across 174 pages. Wiring diagrams for both the basic model and the Metalert II circuits anchor the electrical section, while troubleshooting flowcharts trace a stopped feedroll back to the exact relay, diode, or detector cable at fault. Exploded views support every gearbox and clutch repair, and hardware torque tables sit up front where you can find them without digging. Fill the bevel gearbox with 4 qt. (3.8 L) of oil and set the feedroll slip clutch at 650 to 700 ft. lbs. Harvest does not wait while you hunt one backlash figure. Bookmarked and keyword-searchable, this file goes wherever the chopper is parked: cab, shop, or headland.

New Holland 900 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Chop quality ragged and power demand climbing even right after sharpening the knives

Adjust the shear bar to the cutterhead before blaming the knives; a wide gap ruins chop overnight. Set the adjusting mechanism so the pivot arm needs 10-20 lbs. of force to move, then tighten the shear bar bolt to 66 ft. lbs. (90 N·m) as shown on page 85. Recheck after the first load.

Manual Section: Shear Bar and Smooth Roll Scraper p. 85
Whole driveline shakes at PTO speed with universal joints clicking under load

Grease every universal joint and check the PTO shaft splines for rock; worn splines hammer the entire driveline. If the vibration tracks back to the bevel gearbox, drain and refill it with 4 qt. (3.8 L) of oil, then set gear backlash to 0.006-0.015 inch (0.15-0.38 mm) during reassembly, starting on page 7.

Manual Section: Bevel Gearbox p. 7
Metal detector trips on clean crop or feedrolls fail to stop on real metal

Test the stopping system before harvest, not during it. Verify the stop solenoid holds at 0.7 amps, wiring detail on page 110, then work through the quick checks in the troubleshooting guides beginning on page 129 to separate false detects from a system that never trips. Clean the detector area of tramp iron first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum torque for a 1/2 inch Grade 5 SAE bolt?

For a 1/2 inch Grade 5 SAE bolt, the minimum tightening torque for an unplated application is 82 foot-pounds (111 Newton-metres), and for a plated application, it is 66 foot-pounds (89 Newton-metres). p. 5

How do you fix new Holland 900 blower fan wobbles and throws vibration, weak spout blow distance?

Remove the blower band and check the paddles and star plate for wash-out; worn paddles kill blow distance fast. Grab the fan and feel for bearing play while you are in there. Torque replacement paddle bolts to 125 ft. lbs. (164 N·m) and verify the slip clutch is set at 500 ft. lbs. (678 N·m), covered starting on page 39. p. 39

How do you fix cutterhead growls, rubs, or turns rough by hand with chop quality falling off?

Spin the cutterhead by hand with the drive disconnected. Rolling torque should read 10-15 in. lbs. (1-1.7 N·m); anything notchy means the bearings are done. Inspect the knives and support blocks while the shields are off, then torque knife bolts to 175-200 ft. lbs. (237-270 N·m) per the procedure starting on page 67. p. 67

How do you fix feedrolls slip under load and feed crop unevenly, slug feeding in heavy windrows?

Check the feedroll slip clutch first; it should hold 650-700 ft. lbs. (881-949 N·m), spec listed on page 51. If the clutch checks out, pull the feedroll pads and inspect them for wear, then dial-indicate the bottom front feedroll stub shaft and replace it if run-out exceeds .010 inch (.25 mm). p. 51

What exactly do I receive with this New Holland 900 Service Manual?

Delivery is instant: a 174-page searchable PDF is yours the second checkout clears. Laptop, tablet, or phone, all fine.

Is this New Holland 900 Service Manual printable?
