The transmission on the Gehl 50 MX Mix-All Feedmaker changed at serial number 4500, and this 44-page service manual (1843K) breaks down both builds, then widens to the mill drive, roller mill mounting, clutch, conveyor and molasses pump. Companion machines sold with the mixer are here too: mills, husker-shellers, the #55 crusher, the #600 and #610 swinging auger feeders and the #200 traveling feeder. Exploded parts illustrations fill most of the book, with lists split by serial number so the conveyor and mill drive breakdowns match the machine in your shed. Operating pages cover tractor drive, mixing, unloading and chain adjustment. Hold PTO speed at 540 RPM under load, and pack the mixer transmission with 3 lb. of pressure gun grease. With a feedmaker this old, there is usually nobody left to ask. Bookmarks take you straight to the traveling feeder or discharge blower pages, and the text layer finds any part name in seconds.

Gehl 50 MX Mix-All Feedmaker Common Problems This Manual Covers
Gehl 50 MX mill drive V-belts slipping or twisting on the sheaves under grinding load
Loosen the Mixer Drive Chain before touching the belts, as the caution on page 3 requires. Take up the belts with the set screws on the bearing mounting bracket. Clean grease, oil, rust and burrs from the sheave grooves, run a matched set, and make sure both shafts are parallel. Tighten until the belts deflect only slightly, then retighten the chain. Recheck tension after break-in.
Manual Section: Mill Drive p. 3Shear bolt on the sprocket flange and safety flange shearing repeatedly during grinding or mixing
Find and clear the overload before you restart. Filling past the 2 Ton (82 bu.) capacity packs the feed and overloads the drive. Realign the holes in the Sprocket Flange and Safety Flange following page 4. Install one 1/4 x 1 full threaded hex head cap screw with lockwasher and nut. Use only one bolt, or the safety device will not work properly. Hold the PTO at 540 RPM under load.
Manual Section: Operating Instructions p. 4Feed packing or bridging in the mixer tank with poor mixing showing at the inspection windows
Grind heavy feeds first unless they are high in moisture, and mix wet, heavy material into light, dry feed. When grinding hay and husked ear corn, grind 200 pounds of corn, then a bale of hay. Stay under the 2 Ton (82 bu.) capacity listed on page 4. Add molasses only after the tank is half full and pour it slowly. Never pour liquids into the concentrate hopper (page 4).
Manual Section: Mixing Operation p. 4Mixer and conveyor drive chains running slack or sprockets wearing out fast
Loosen the chain tightener stud, move the Sprocket toward the Chain, then tighten the stud nuts, following page 6. On the Main Drive Chain, take up on the Idler Spring Stud, but never extend the Idler Spring more than one inch. Page 8 warns that chains set too tight strain the shafts and bearings and wear the sprockets fast. After belt take-up, add the spare chain links bolted to the Concentrate Hopper Support Channel.
Manual Section: Mixer and Conveyor Drive Chain Adjustment p. 6Molasses attachment flow rate slowing down or discharge nozzles plugging while pumping into the tank
Clean the suction strainer and discharge nozzles, because buildup plugs them and slows the flow. Keep the molasses warmer than 60 degrees Fahrenheit, or dilute it with water to speed up the flow. The pump does not need priming. After each use, remove the cross pipe from the top of the tank and flush the pump and hoses with water, following page 10.
Manual Section: Molasses Attachment p. 10Universal drive joints wearing or failing early on the tractor PTO hookup
Check the PTO shaft to hitch point dimension. It should be 14 inches horizontally; correct the tractor drawbar if it is off. Keep the tractor lined up with the Mixer, because page 3 warns that severe angles increase the risk of universal drive damage. For transport, disconnect the Universal Drive from the PTO, set it in the Upper Drawbar Hitch and secure it with the Hold-down Chain.
