Service intervals, track tension and warning lamp meanings for Gehl's CTL series compact track loaders are settled in one place: the 202-page factory Operator Manual, Form 917299, covering four models from CTL55 to CTL85. Maintenance takes the largest share of this Gehl CTL85 operator manual PDF: service data, the full maintenance chart and a daily inspection routine, all following a long safety chapter that explains each decal on the machine. When a warning lamp flashes on your panel, the troubleshooting chapter traces it to a cause, and the specifications list machine dimensions and operating range. Set the track tension gap at 25 to 50 mm (1 to 2 in.), check it every 50 hours, and change the hydraulic oil return filter after the first 50 hours, then every 500. Alone with your machine, there is nobody to ask. Bookmarks jump to each chapter, and printed pages can live on your bench and take the grease.

Gehl CTL55, CTL65, CTL75, CTL85 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Gehl CTL compact track loader coolant temperature warning lamp flashing, alarm sounding, engine slowing with power loss
Park in a safe place and check for steam with the hood closed. If steam shows, stop the engine and call a Gehl dealer (page 159). Never open the hood over steam or loosen the radiator cap while hot. Otherwise run at low idle until the gauge drops to green, stop, and let it cool. Then check coolant level, leaks, radiator fins and fan belt slack against 7 to 10 mm (0.28 to 0.4 in.) on page 127.
Manual Section: If the Engine Overheats p. 159Battery charge warning lamp flashing and alarm sounding during operation with the engine running
Park the machine in a safe place, stop it, and inspect the fan belt for slack or breakage as page 164 directs. Check slack against 7 to 10 mm (0.28 to 0.4 in.) on page 127 and adjust as needed. If the lamp keeps flashing once the belt is right, the fault is in the charger, so consult a Gehl dealer.
Manual Section: If a Warning Lamp Flashes p. 164Hydraulic pilot line filter warning lamp flashing during operation, often right after a cold start
Stop the engine and replace the pilot line filter as soon as this lamp flashes (page 165). Do not keep working with the lamp lit, because that can damage the line filter and the hydraulic equipment. In cold weather the cause can be hydraulic oil that has not warmed up, so run the hydraulic warm-up procedure before you condemn the filter.
Manual Section: If a Warning Lamp Flashes p. 165Starter motor turns weakly or not at all, horn is weak, engine will not start
Set both ignition keys to OFF and jump-start from a rescue battery of the same capacity, following page 160. Wear safety glasses and keep the two machines from touching. Connect the positive terminals first, put the final negative clip on the engine block far from the battery, and disconnect negative first. Never jump a frozen battery: warm it to 15°C (60°F) first (page 35). Have a Gehl dealer recharge the dead battery.
Manual Section: If the Battery Goes Dead p. 160Lift arms, bucket, auxiliary hydraulics or travel will not operate at all
Check that the safety bar is lowered, because a raised bar stops these functions. Next, turn the key OFF, inspect the fuses and replace any blown fuse with one of the same capacity (page 162). If the new fuse blows right away, the electric system has a fault and continued use risks fire, so stop and consult a Gehl dealer. Then check the hydraulic oil level and top it up to the prescribed level (page 166).
Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 166Crawler tracks repeatedly slip off the machine during travel, with visible slack in the track
Adjust the track tension, because the chart on page 166 gives loose crawlers as the cause. Measure gap (A) against 25 to 50 mm (1 to 2 in.) as shown on page 130. When you finish, torque the grease discharge valve to 59 N·m (43.4 ft-lb.) per page 131. Check the tension every 50 hours (page 112) so it stays in range.
Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 166Frequently Asked Questions
What are the engine oil and oil filter replacement specs for the Gehl CTL55, CTL65, CTL75, CTL85?
The engine oil pan requires diesel engine oil API-CF or higher. The replacement interval is after the first 50 hours and then every 250 hours. The oil filter cartridge part numbers are 195568 for CTL55, 194315 for CTL65 and CTL75, and 195569 for CTL85. p. 106
What are the hydraulic oil return filter replacement specs for the Gehl CTL55, CTL65, CTL75, CTL85?
The hydraulic oil return filter element part number is 195564. It should be replaced after the first 50 hours and then every 500 hours. p. 108
What is the correct fan belt tension for the engine?
The fan belt tension should be approximately 98N (22 lbs.) when pressed midway between the fan pulley and alternator pulley. The slack should be about 7 to 10 mm (0.28 to 0.4 in.). p. 127
What is the tightening torque for the travel motor gear oil plugs on a Gehl CTL55, CTL65, CTL75, CTL85?
The tightening torque for the travel motor gear oil plugs (1), (2), and (3) is 22 N·m (15.9 ft-lb.). p. 137
How do you bleed the air from the fuel system after the fuel runs out?
After adding fuel and opening the water separator valve, turn the ignition key to the ON position and hold it for 10 to 15 seconds. The automatic air bleeder will bleed the air from the system. Do not use the starter motor to crank the engine to prime the fuel system as this may damage the starter motor. p. 161
