Written by Kawasaki for its 70ZIV wheel loader, the original 157-page factory operator's book is reproduced here as a Kawasaki 70ZIV operator manual PDF. Maintenance takes up the biggest share of the book, starting with daily walkaround checks, moving through the 50, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 hour service lists, and ending with a lubricant, capacity and coolant chart. Earlier sections explain the pedals, levers, switches and dash indicators in your cab, cover towing and jump starting, and lay out troubleshooting charts for engine, electrical, steering, hydraulic, brake and torque converter faults. Plan on 140 liters (37 gal.) for the hydraulic tank and 20 liters (5.3 gal.) of transmission oil, and keep compressed air at 2 kg/cm² (30 psi) or less when you blow out the air cleaner element. An hour parked is an hour of material not moving. Bookmarks and a searchable text layer take you straight to the 500 hour list without paging through the whole book.

Kawasaki 70ZIV Common Problems This Manual Covers
Kawasaki 70ZIV wheel loader engine oil pressure warning lamp stays lit after startup
Stop the engine and park on level ground, then work through the oil pressure entries in the engine troubleshooting chart on page 150. Check the engine oil level and top up with SAE 10W-30. The fluid table on page 148 lists a full fill of 14 liter (3.7gal.). Do not keep loading with the lamp on.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 150Engine coolant temperature climbing into the warning range during long loading cycles
Check the coolant temperature entries in the engine troubleshooting chart on page 150 before going back to work. Clean the radiator fins once the engine cools. Keep air, water or steam pressure below 2kg/cm² (30psi), as the warning on page 104 says. Anything higher can damage the fins.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 150Engine down on power or blowing exhaust smoke when pushing the bucket into a pile
Inspect the air cleaner element first. If dirt or dust has clogged it, blow dry compressed air at 2kg/cm² (30psi) along the inside of the element, working up and down, as shown on page 103. If power is still short or the smoke continues, work through the insufficient power and exhaust smoke entries on page 150.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 150Charge lamp stays lit on the indicator panel after the engine starts and runs
Check the charge lamp entries in the Electrical Troubleshooting chart before you put the machine back to work. Confirm what the lamp means in the indicator section of the Operator's Area, which starts on page 33. If the batteries are too weak to restart the engine, follow the booster battery and jumper cable procedure in Special Procedures on page 95.
Manual Section: Electrical TroubleshootingBoom raises slowly or drifts down on its own with the bucket held up
Lower the bucket to the ground and check the oil level in the hydraulic tank. Top up with the ISO VG46 or ISO VG32 grade listed in the fluid table on page 148. The tank holds 140 liter (37gal.). Then work through the slow boom raise and boom natural drift entries in the Hydraulic Troubleshooting chart.
Manual Section: Hydraulic TroubleshootingEngine runs but the machine will not move in forward or reverse
Verify that the parking brake is fully released, then check the transmission oil level. Fill with Mobil TRANS HD-10 ATF or SAE 10W engine oil as listed on page 148. The system takes 20 liter (5.3gal.). If the machine still will not drive or the torque converter runs hot, work through the Torque Converter & Transmission Troubleshooting chart.
Manual Section: Torque Converter & Transmission TroubleshootingFrequently Asked Questions
How do I diagnose transmission overheating on the Kawasaki 70ZIV?
If the torque converter overheats, the machine may be operating in too high a speed range or under excessive load. You should reduce the load, use a lower gear, change the application, or clean the radiator fins. If the problem persists, contact your local Kawasaki loader dealer for inspection. p. 154
What are the replacement specs for the engine oil filter on the Kawasaki 70ZIV wheel loader?
The engine oil filter should be replaced every 250 hours. When installing, apply a light film of clean engine oil to the gasket surface and tighten the filter by hand an additional three-fourths to one turn after the gasket contacts the filter head surface. p. 123
What is the correct procedure for checking the engine oil level?
Check the oil level using the dipstick while the machine is on a level surface. The oil level must be maintained between the 'H' (high) and 'L' (low) marks on the dipstick. Wait about five minutes after stopping the engine before measuring to allow oil to drain back to the oil pan. p. 64
What is the required torque for the bucket teeth bolts on a Kawasaki 70ZIV wheel loader?
When replacing bucket teeth, the nuts must be tightened to 71-85 kgf·m (514-615 ft·lb). It is recommended to retighten them after operating the machine for a few hours. p. 106
What is the maximum deflection for the fan belts?
The fan belt deflection should be measured at the longest span of the belt. The maximum allowable deflection is 9.5 to 12.7 mm (3/8 to 1/2 inch). p. 124
