Kobelco wrote this shop manual for the SK140SRLC short-radius excavator, serial YH06-08001 and up, first edition October 2010. It is the factory's own procedure set, built around the Mechatro control system and the Mitsubishi D04FR engine.
You know the job. The machine goes slow on every function, the multi display shows a code, and the crew stands around while you guess between a sensor, a proportional valve and the pilot pump. This book gives you the error code tables, the trouble-by-symptom charts and the hydraulic and electric circuit diagrams to trace it properly.
It also covers disassembly of the attachment, upper structure, travel system and swing bearing. Buy it once and it stays with this machine for every hour on the meter.

Kobelco SK140SRLC Common Problems This Manual Covers
All controls dead or very slow
Work through Troubleshooting by Trouble before you touch the pumps. Start with the fuse and the safety lever lock switch, then the pilot pressure sensor and solenoid valves. After that, check pilot gear pump output and the pump proportional valves, using the circuit diagrams to trace each step.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting - Troubleshooting by Trouble p. 848Every function slows down, machine feels down on hydraulic power
Read the code on the multi display and look it up in Troubleshooting by Error Codes. A P1 or P2 pump proportional valve fault is the usual cause here. Cycle the key if a code holds on, and clear the history data to confirm the fault comes back.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting - Troubleshooting by Error CodesTravel will not move, starts slowly or has no pull
The control valve pages under Components System cover the main relief valve. Pull it and look for foreign matter between the poppet and seat, a sticking main poppet or a broken spring. Clean or replace the parts, then recheck main relief pressure against the Performance specs.
Manual Section: Disassembly - Control valve (main relief valve) p. 610Arm drifts down with the lever in neutral
Check the arm lock valve and arm spool for internal leakage, which the control valve chapter walks through. Inspect for a damaged seat or O-ring, or parts held open by debris. Watch the relief valve area for external leaks while the arm is held up under load.
Manual Section: System - Hydraulic System (arm lock valve) p. 202Frequently Asked Questions
Will this manual match my SK140SRLC?
It covers serial YH06-08001 and up, first edition October 2010. Check the serial plate before you order. Earlier machines may differ in the Mechatro control and engine details. p. 18
My gauge cluster shows an error code. Does the book explain what it means?
Yes. Troubleshooting by Error Codes lists what the Mechatro controller flagged, such as a sensor or pump proportional valve fault. Some codes only clear after a key OFF then ON. You can also cancel the history data and run the machine to reproduce the fault. p. 790
Are the hydraulic and electrical schematics included?
The System section carries the hydraulic circuit diagrams and the electric circuit diagrams, along with the Mechatro control system, components and the air conditioner. Lay the schematic beside the machine and you can follow pilot pressure from the gear pump to each solenoid. p. 181
What engine specs does the Kobelco SK140SRLC service manual give for the D04FR?
The Mitsubishi D04FR is a 4.249 L four-cylinder, 102 x 130 mm, firing order 1-3-4-2. Rated output is 69.2 kW at 2,000 min-1, and low idle is 1,015 ± 20 min-1. Oil fill runs 17.5 L at full level, 18.5 L total. p. 30
Does it cover pulling and refitting the swing bearing?
The Disassembly section covers the swing bearing along with the attachment, upper structure and travel system. Bearing capscrews go in at 180 degree intervals to 279 N-m (206 lbf-ft) with Loctite #262. Getting that sequence wrong costs you a bearing, so having it in writing is reason enough to own the book. p. 722
