Seven Manitou lift truck variants, from the MC 30 and M26-2 up to the M40-4 and M50-4, share this 820-page repair manual, OEM ID 547518 EN. As a Manitou M26-2 repair manual PDF, it pairs the electric diagram and hydraulic diagrams with gear box and torque converter work, including the transmission hydraulic circuit and pressure checking. Axle work runs through the brakes, planetary reduction, steering cylinder and bevel pinion support, and the I.C. engine sections strip the cylinder head, pistons, crankshaft and timing case. Refill the sump with 7.6 L of engine oil. When your hour meter says service is due, the schedule spells it out: clean the dry air filter cartridge every 50 H and change the engine oil filter at 400 H. Separate disassembly sections for the 1004-4 and 1004-42 engines let you confirm which unit your truck carries before ordering parts, and bookmarks plus a searchable text layer take you straight to each chapter.

Manitou MC30, M26-2 to M50-4 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Manitou MC 30 and M-series lift truck alternator warning light stays on at fast idle and ammeter shows no output

Verify the battery is fully charged, then check all connections at the regulator, alternator and battery following page 611. If they are good, switch off, disconnect the wire from the alternator F terminal and bridge it to the alternator negative terminal. Switch on and run at fast idle: no output means an alternator fault, output means a regulator fault.

Manual Section: Alternator Fault Diagnosis p. 611
Battery runs discharged or gets hotter than normal and charge voltage will not hold constant

Verify the battery is fully charged, then connect a 0 to 50 V moving-coil voltmeter across the alternator terminals and a 0 to 100 A ammeter in the alternator to battery positive wire, per page 610. Switch on a 10 to 15 A load, run at about 1500 rev/min, then remove the load. Voltage should rise to 14 V and hold steady.

Manual Section: Alternator Fault Diagnosis p. 610
Diesel engine runs correctly for a short time then stops or runs roughly

Loosen the vent plug on the fuel filter and work the fuel lift pump priming lever until air-free fuel flows, as laid out on page 271. If the lever will not move, rotate the crankshaft one revolution. Loosen the high-pressure pipes at two atomisers, crank until fuel runs clear, then hunt for the leak in the suction or low-pressure system.

Manual Section: Fuel System Air Elimination (Bosch) p. 271
Turbocharged engine has not enough power and blows black smoke from the exhaust

Inspect the air filter element first, since a dirty element sits on the black smoke cause list in the turbocharger chart on page 223. Clean the dry cartridge every 50 H and change it at 400 H per page 42. Then check for a loose connection to the turbocharger, a damaged or restricted crossover pipe, and restriction in the exhaust system.

Manual Section: Turbocharger Faults p. 223
Turbocharged engine blows blue smoke with high lubricating oil consumption

Check the crankcase breather for restriction first; it appears on the chart for both blue smoke and high oil consumption on page 223, with the cause list on page 224. Then check the air filter element. If the breather valve must be cleaned inside, do not put it completely into cleaning fluid, dry it with low pressure air, and never direct compressed air at your skin, per page 226.

Manual Section: Turbocharger Faults p. 223
S115 starter motor does not operate or turns the engine over with slow action

Inspect the starter brushes following page 617: they must slide freely in their guides with free-moving wire connections. Clean a sticking brush with material damp with gasolene and refit it in its original position. Check spring pressure with a spring balance against 8.34 to 11.00 N, and renew worn brushes with the exact same grade.

Manual Section: Starter Motor Testing p. 617
