Printed by CNH Industrial in 2016 as a 1st edition factory book, this service manual covers Miller Nitro 6300, 6345 and 6500 sprayers from PIN 2116021 and up. These are the Tier 4B final machines with Cummins QSB or QSL engines and SCR/DEF aftertreatment.

It covers the engine, cooling system and fan drive, then the powered front axle, hydrostatic pump and wheel motors, brakes, steering and pneumatic suspension. It also has the spraying pump, foam marker, cab HVAC with ATC error codes, SPN/FMI engine faults and the electrical and hydraulic schematic posters.

Picture the wheel motor hanging on the hub and no bolt torque to finish the job. The number is in here: 386 - 468 N·m (285 - 345 lb ft). Torque it, button it up and get the sprayer back to spraying.

Miller Nitro 6300, Nitro 6345, Nitro 6500 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Cab climate control stops working and the ATC panel shows E18, E19 or E23

With the system on, press PWR and AUTO together to enter error code mode, and press PWR to scroll through each stored code. E18 is listed as clutch open and E19 as clutch shorted. E23 is a low voltage error. The full list runs from E0 through E23.

Manual Section: Cab climate control - ATC error codes p. 426
Flashing engine icon on the display with no idea what the fault is

Touch the navigation icon, then Engine, then the flashing engine icon or Faults. Write down the SPN and FMI numbers from the Service Fault Number screen. Look them up in the fault code table for the reason, effect and action, such as checking the engine wiring harness or calling Cummins Service.

Manual Section: Electrical systems - Engine control system and SPN/FMI fault codes p. 776
Nitro 6300 hydrostatic drive or steering pressure needs checking against spec

Compare your gauge readings with the Nitro 6300 pressure settings, listed as minimum, nominal and maximum. Charge pressure is 460 / 490 / 520 psi. High-pressure forward is 6400 / 6500 / 6500 psi. Priority pressure for power steering is 2225 / 2300 / 2375 psi.

Manual Section: Hydraulic systems - Pressure settings p. 236
Front wheel removed for service and needs the correct lug nut torque on reinstall

When you reinstall the front wheel, tighten the lug nuts to 610 - 678 N·m (450 - 500 lb ft). Then follow the maintenance chart in the Introduction, which lists a tire lug nut check at the first 10 hours, the first 50 hours and every 50 hours after that.

Frequently Asked Questions

What engine is in the Miller Nitro 6300, 6345 and 6500?

The Nitro 6300 runs a Cummins QSB Tier 4 Final rated at 300 Hp, with power bulge to 310 Hp. The Nitro 6345 has a Cummins QSL Tier 4 Final at 320 Hp, bulging to 345 Hp. The Nitro 6500 uses the Cummins QSL Tier 4 Final at 380 Hp, bulging to 400 Hp. p. 31

What is the wheel lug nut torque on a Miller Nitro sprayer?

Tighten the lug nuts to 610 - 678 N·m (450 - 500 lb ft) when you install the front wheels. The maintenance chart has you check tire lug nuts at the first 10 hours, the first 50 hours and every 50 hours after that. p. 392

How do I read the ATC error codes on a Nitro cab?

Turn the system on, then press the PWR and AUTO keys together to enter error code mode. If more than one error is stored, press PWR to scroll through them. Codes run from E0 (no faults) to E23 (low voltage error). E13 is a water valve actuator error, E18 is clutch open and E19 is clutch shorted. p. 426

How do I look up engine fault codes (SPN/FMI) on a Nitro?

From the home screen, touch the navigation icon, then Engine, then the flashing engine icon or the Faults button. The Service Fault Number screen shows the SPN and FMI numbers. Look that number up in the manual's fault code table, which gives the reason, the effect and the action to take. Actions include checking the engine wiring harness or calling Cummins Service. Having that table on the bench is the best reason to own the book. p. 776

How much hydraulic oil does the Nitro hold and how often is it changed?

The hydraulic reservoir holds approximately 132 L (35 US gal). The maintenance chart calls for changing the hydraulic oil every 1000 hours. Engine oil and filter are changed every 500 hours. The QSB holds 14.2 L (15.0 US qt) of oil and the QSL holds 22.7 L (24.0 US qt). p. 268
