Factory repair manual 84242310 for the New Holland Boomer 4055 (41 kW / 55 hp at 2700 rpm) and Boomer 4060 (44.8 kW / 60 hp at 2800 rpm) compact tractors. This is the workshop book, not the operator handbook: teardown and rebuild of the engine, clutch, front axle, rear differential, PTO, brakes, hydraulics and steering, with the torque charts and fluid specs up front. Both transmissions are covered in full, the EHSS hydrostatic and the SSS 12x12 synchro shuttle gearbox, and they are different animals right down to oil capacity. Cab machines get their own electrical chapters and a dedicated wiring schematic block on top of the open station coverage, so the book fits either build.

Hydrostatic tractor creeps forward or backward with the pedal released
That is the neutral adjustment on the hydrostatic unit, not a worn pump. The EHSS Hydrostatic Transmission section walks through the neutral adjustment and bearing preload procedure, plus servo control checks, before you condemn the pump and motor. Verify charge circuit pressure while you are in there.

Start with pressure testing in the Hydraulic System section: check main pump output against the rated 43.9 or 45.5 L/min for your model, then verify the system relief at 17 236 kPa (2500 psi). The section covers the lift circuit, control valve and the 80 mm lift cylinder so you can isolate pump, valve or cylinder leakage.

The Power Take-Off section covers the PTO clutch and shaft, both mid and rear drives, and the engagement control adjustment. Most no engagement complaints trace to linkage adjustment or clutch wear, and the section gives the removal, overhaul and adjustment procedure rather than leaving you to guess at the control setting.

Work the circuit, not the parts cannon. The Alternator and Starter section gives output tests, no load and load testing, and overhaul steps, while the Electrical Circuits chapter describes starting, charging and warning circuits one by one. Cab models have their own schematics block, so use the drawings for your configuration.

My tractor has the hydrostatic drive. Does this manual cover it, or only the gear transmission?
Both, in full. The EHSS hydrostatic gets its own coverage: pump and motor overhaul, charge circuit, servo control, speed range shift, neutral adjustment and bearing preload. The SSS 12x12 gear box has a separate block for the gear train, synchroniser packs, shuttle control and creeper drive. Know which one you have before you start ordering parts. Even the oil capacity differs: 46.0 L on the EHSS against 38 L on the SSS, transmission and hydraulics combined. p. 619
I have a cab model. Is the cab wiring in here, or just the open station harness?
Cab machines are handled separately and properly. On top of the standard electrical chapters there is a dedicated set for cab models: cab specific harnesses, roof and console wiring, extra lighting and accessory circuits, plus a full block of wiring schematics by circuit with connector and harness routing plates. The cab cluster, alternator and starter service for that configuration are covered too. If you have a cab, use those pages, the harnesses do not match the open station drawings. p. 255
Are the specs split between the 4055 and 4060, or lumped together?
Split where they differ. The 4055 is rated 41 kW (55 hp) at 2700 rpm, the 4060 is 44.8 kW (60 hp) at 2800 rpm, and the hydraulic figures follow: main pump 43.9 L/min at 2285 rpm on one against 45.5 L/min at 2369 rpm on the other, with remote valve flow of 40.9 and 42.5 L/min respectively. The manual states which model each figure belongs to, so you test against the right number. p. 1147
Can I actually test and set hydraulic pressures with this, or does it just describe the system?
You can set them. The hydraulic chapter gives the system relief valve setting of 17 236 kPa (2500 psi) and the safety valve at 24 510 kPa (3555 psi) with its tolerance, plus pressure testing procedures for the pump, control valve, remote valves and the three point hitch lift circuit. Rated hitch capacity is 1975 kg (4355 lb) at the hitch balls, 1571 kg (3465 lb) at 24 inches, so you have a real benchmark for a weak lift. p. 82
How deep does the engine section go? Full rebuild or just top end?
Full rebuild depth: cylinder head and valve train, pistons and connecting rods, crankshaft and bearings, timing, lubrication, cooling and fuel injection. Cooling specs are all there for chasing an overheat, thermostat starts opening at 71 C and is fully open at 82 C, radiator cap holds 89.6 kPa (13 psi), water pump belt deflection is 10 to 15 mm under 20 to 25 lb. Engine oil capacity with filter is 7.0 L. p. 74
