New Holland Boomer 4055 dies while working under load in the field
Check the fuel gauge first, then confirm the 60 liter (16 U.S. gal) tank is not drawing air from a low pickup. Bleed the fuel system and injector lines. Inspect the fuel filter base for weeping and check the fuse box for a loose fusible link.
Engine runs too cool and never reaches operating temperature on the gauge
Verify coolant level in the recovery tank before blaming the gauge. The thermostat should start to open at 71 C (160 F) and sit fully open at 82 C (180 F), specs listed on page 152. If the needle stays low all morning, the thermostat is stuck open or a coolant drain line is bypassing the block. Replace the thermostat.
Hydraulic fluid leaking from front loader fittings and hoses
Lower the loader, shut down, and relieve pressure before touching a fitting. Check hydraulic oil level per the maintenance procedure on pages 96 through 98 and top off to the full mark. Snug the loader circuit fittings; these lines see 172 bar (2490 PSI) at the system relief setting on page 153, so a weeping flare face will not seal itself.
Battery terminals corroded with acid weeping from the vent caps
Disconnect the ground cable first, then clean both posts and clamps with baking soda and water until the white powder is gone. Fill each cell only to the split ring, never above it. Coat the terminals with dielectric grease and recheck the fuse box locations covered on pages 106 through 108 for acid damage before the next season.
Engine cranks slowly or will not start on a cold morning
Set the range and shuttle lever to neutral and the PTO off so the safety start switches close. Follow the starting procedure on pages 35 and 36, holding the glow plug preheat before cranking. Crank no longer than 30 seconds, then rest the starter a full minute. If jumping, connect the ground last, away from the battery.
Loose bolts and fittings found during first season checks on a new tractor
Walk the tractor before each day in the field and check the obvious fasteners. Torque front and rear wheel bolts to 129 N.m (95 ft-lb) and the rear disc bolts to 244 N.m (180 ft-lb), values listed on page 114.
