Fit comes first: every page of this 229-page Takeuchi TB1140 operator manual PDF (OEM ID AN0E004) applies to the TB1140 hydraulic excavator, and the introduction shows you where to find the machine and engine numbers. A maintenance chart sets each service point from the 10-hour daily inspection through the first-50-hour checks on new machines, while the controls chapter explains the instrument cluster, switches, levers and pedals. Specifications add lifting capacities, operating range and machine dimensions; the options chapter handles the hydraulic breaker, travel alarm and load safety device. Replace the engine oil filter after the first 50 hours, then every 500; the air cleaner outer element goes every 1000 hours or after 6 cleanings, whichever comes first. Chasing a flashing warning lamp or a blown fuse? Troubleshooting lists both. Bookmarks reach any chapter in one click, and the text layer takes your search for a term like 'lever pattern' straight to its page.

Takeuchi TB1140 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Takeuchi TB1140 coolant temperature warning lamp and engine emergency lamp flashing with steam from engine room

Park the machine in a safe place and check whether the engine oil pressure/coolant level lamp is flashing. If steam is coming out, stop the engine and contact a Takeuchi sales or service outlet. Do not open the engine hood or remove the radiator cap while hot (page 167). Otherwise, idle until the gauge reaches green, then stop. Once cool, check fan belt slack, coolant level, leaks, radiator fins and cooling system sediment.

Manual Section: If the Engine Overheats p. 167
Battery charge warning lamp flashing and alarm sounding on the instrument cluster during operation

Park the machine in a safe place and stop the engine before opening the engine hood. A running fan or fan belt can sever hands or tools (page 42). Inspect the fan belt for slack or breakage and adjust it as needed, following page 172. If the lamp keeps flashing after that, the charger is at fault, so consult a Takeuchi sales or service outlet.

Manual Section: If a Warning Lamp Flashes p. 172
Starter motor turns but engine does not start after the fuel tank ran empty

Check the fuel level and add fuel if it is low. Bleed the air by turning the starter key to ON and holding it there for about 20 seconds so the automatic air bleeder can work (page 169). If the water separator warning lamp is on, drain the water separator (page 173). Crank for no more than 15 seconds at a time and wait 30 seconds before retrying.

Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 175
Working equipment, slewing and travel operation not possible with engine running and levers moved

Check that the safety lock lever is lowered, and keep your hands off the operating levers while you move it (page 62). If the lever is already down, turn the key OFF, open the fuse box and replace any blown fuse with a spare of the same capacity, including the 10A lever lock fuse. If a fuse blows again right after replacement, stop and consult a Takeuchi sales or service outlet (page 170).

Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 174
Digging force insufficient and working equipment response slow after a cold start

Warm up the hydraulic oil before digging. Do not operate the levers suddenly while the oil is below 20 °C (68 °F), because slow response and unexpected movement are likely (page 86). Check the hydraulic oil level and replenish it to the prescribed level. Clean the air cleaner if it is clogged. If the hydraulic oil is not a suitable type, replace it, following page 174.

Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 174
Rubber or steel crawler tracks repeatedly slipping off the undercarriage during travel and pivot turns

Check crawler tension first, since loose crawlers are the listed cause on page 175. Measure the tension gap and compare it to 155 to 165 mm for rubber crawlers or 250 to 280 mm for steel crawlers (page 133). Adjust the tension, then torque the grease discharge valve to 90 N·m (130 ft.lb.) as shown on page 134.

Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 175

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I re-register the immobilizer keys for the Takeuchi TB1140?

To re-register keys, insert the registration key (gray grip) into the starter switch and turn it from OFF to ON. Hold for 10 seconds, then return to OFF and remove the key. Within 10 seconds, insert each immobilizer key (black grip) and turn to ON for 10 seconds each. Finally, re-insert the registration key, turn to ON for 10 seconds, and return to OFF to complete the procedure. p. 178

Why does the boom or arm not move normally?

If the boom or arm does not move normally, air may be trapped in the hydraulic system. You must bleed the air by loosening the plugs (A/PIL) for the boom or the hose (B) for the arm slowly while moving the operating lever until air bubbles stop appearing. This operation is dangerous and requires experience; if you are unsure, have it performed by a Takeuchi sales or service outlet. p. 152

What are the replacement specifications for the engine oil filter on the Takeuchi TB1140?

The engine oil filter cartridge (part number 897324-3860) should be replaced after the first 50 hours of operation and then every 500 hours thereafter. When installing, apply a thin layer of oil to the filter packing and tighten it 3/4 of a turn with a filter wrench after the packing contacts the installation surface. p. 116

What is the correct tightening torque for the travel motor gear oil plugs on the Takeuchi TB1140?

When replacing the travel motor gear oil, the drain plug (1) and the level/supply plugs (2) and (3) must be tightened to a torque of 50 N·m (36.9 ft-lb). Ensure you wrap new sealing tape around the plugs before installation. p. 137

How do I check the fan belt tension?

Open the engine hood and press on the center of the fan belt (1) with a finger. The tension is normal if the belt bends about 8 mm (0.3 in.) when pressed with a force of approximately 98 N (22 lbs). p. 141
