A new operator is in the cab, the instrument cluster is lit with unfamiliar symbols, and the walk-around still comes first: the Takeuchi TB175 operator manual PDF (OEM ID AL3E008) handles that shift start in 219 pages for this hydraulic excavator. Daily care fills the largest chapter, from service data to walk-around inspection, while lifting capacity charts and operating range dimensions tell you what the boom can hold at reach. Safety, controls, operation, and transport each get a full chapter, and the options section covers the hydraulic breaker, telescopic arm, and third auxiliary hydraulics. Know that the hydraulic tank holds 68 L and the engine oil pan tops out at 10.2 L; when the Engine Emergency Lamp lights, you have roughly 15 seconds before the engine stops or falls to low idle. Decoding a cluster warning mid-shift can idle a whole crew. Bookmarked and keyword-searchable, your copy travels to wherever the TB175 is parked.

Takeuchi TB175 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Takeuchi TB175 engine emergency lamp flashing on the instrument cluster, then engine drops to low idle or stops

Park the machine in a safe place first. Check which lamp is flashing the moment it lights. Per page 49, the engine emergency lamp gives you about 15 seconds before the engine stops or drops to low idle automatically. Note whether the oil pressure, coolant temperature or battery charge lamp is also lit, then work through If a Warning Lamp Flashes on page 151 before restarting.

Manual Section: If a Warning Lamp Flashes p. 49
Engine overheating and coolant temperature warning lamp flashing during normal digging work

Stop the engine and let the engine and radiator cool; do not open the engine hood if steam is coming from the engine room. Then check the coolant level, loosening the radiator cap slowly. Refill to spec; the full cooling system capacity is 9.5 L, listed on page 101. Then go through the inspection steps and cooling system maintenance items in If the Engine Overheats before you put the machine back on the job.

Manual Section: If the Engine Overheats
Dead battery out on the job site and the engine will not start

Check the jump starting procedure in If the Battery Goes Dead before you clamp a single cable, and connect the jumper cables in the order it lists. Once the engine runs, remove the cables using the separate disconnect sequence in that section. Then find out why the battery died before you shut down again.

Manual Section: If the Battery Goes Dead
Ran the fuel tank dry and now the engine will not restart after refueling

Stop the engine and refuel in a well ventilated place with no smoking or open flames; do not fill the tank to capacity, leave room for expansion (page 45). Tank capacity is 120 L per page 101. Then bleed the air out of the fuel system following the After the Fuel Runs Out procedure, because refueling alone will not get the engine running. Once it fires, check the water separator and fuel level warning lamps before you go back to digging.

Manual Section: After the Fuel Runs Out
Blown fuse or fusible link and an electrical circuit on the machine stops working

Turn the starter key to the OFF position and stop the engine first. Then check the fuse layout in If a Fuse Blows to find which fuse feeds the dead circuit, then inspect that fuse and replace it with one of the same rating. Inspect the fusible link the same way. If a new fuse blows again right away, stop swapping fuses and trace the short in that circuit.

Manual Section: If a Fuse Blows
Travel motor, slew motor, or control valve making noise during normal operation

Check page 145 before you pull anything apart. It lists travel motor noise, slew motor noise, control valve noise and momentary speed changes as normal behavior, not malfunctions. Compare what you hear against that list. If the noise is irregular or getting worse, work through the irregular noise checks under Other Symptoms.

Manual Section: Symptoms that are not Malfunctions p. 145

Frequently Asked Questions

Why will my Takeuchi TB175 not start?

If the starter motor does not turn or turns weakly, the battery may be dead. Check the horn; if it is weak, this confirms a dead battery. Refer to page 147 for the procedure to connect jumper cables using a rescue vehicle's battery. p. 147

Why are the boom, arm, bucket, or slew functions slow or inoperative?

This may be caused by a raised safety lock lever, a blown fuse, or insufficient hydraulic oil. Ensure the safety lock lever is lowered (page 56), check for blown fuses (If a Fuse Blows), or replenish hydraulic oil to the prescribed level (Inspecting the Hydraulic Oil Level). p. 153

What is the hydraulic tank capacity on the Takeuchi TB175?

The hydraulic tank has a total system capacity of 132 liters (34.9 US gal) and a tank capacity of 68 liters (18 US gal). p. 101

How do I adjust the fan belt tension?

Stop the engine and allow the machine to cool down before you adjust the fan belt. Then loosen the adjustment bolt (5) and locking nut (6), then use a lever (7) to move the alternator (8) to adjust the slack. The slack should be about 10 mm (0.4 in.) when pressed at the center with a force of about 10 kg (22 lb.). p. 117
