Terex Atlas 1305 / 1505 / 1605 / 1705 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Terex Atlas 1605 hydraulic oil running hot, boom and slew feel weak under load
Check the main pressure settings against the setting tables starting on page 187. Verify the pressure cut-off and LS regulator delta-p values; maximum system pressure is 360 bar, and a relief set too high dumps oil over the valve as heat. Correct any setting out of spec, then recheck oil temperature under load.
Manual Section: Pressure Setting tables/setting Regulations p. 187Engine down on power, misfires and hard starting after fuel system service
Measure the fuel admission pressure following the check on page 198; it must hold between 5 bar and 5.5 bar. If it reads low, renew the fuel filter, inspect the supply lines for air leaks, and retest. Confirm the engine still reaches its rated 3700 rpm maximum speed with no load.
Manual Section: Engine Fuel Admission Pressure Check p. 198Hydraulic pump whines and cavitates after oil change, all functions slow until warm
Bleed the pump using the procedure on page 197: screw the hydraulic lead off the screw connection, fill the pump housing with hydraulic oil to the top of the connection, then refit the lead. Check tank oil level and suction line clamps before restarting; a pump run dry cannot hold 360 bar system pressure.
Manual Section: Pressure Setting tables/setting Regulations p. 197Slewing gear growls and upper structure jerks when starting or stopping a swing
Drain the slewing gear lube oil and check it for metal particles. Refill with approximately 3 liters per the capacity on page 158, then test a full swing; slewing speed should reach 9 rpm at rated engine speed. Persistent noise means pulling the motor and inspecting the gear set.
Manual Section: Slewing Gear Gears and Motor p. 158Wheel nuts keep working loose after service, wheels wobble at 20 km/h transport speed
Torque the wheel nuts to 450 Nm minimum, 550 Nm maximum, per the value on page 417, working in a crossing pattern. Recheck torque after the first hour of driving and again at the next shift. Inspect stud threads and rim seating faces, and replace any stretched studs before refitting.
Manual Section: Axles p. 417Frequently Asked Questions
How to reset error codes on Terex Atlas 1505?
Error messages on the display can be confirmed and switched off by simultaneously pressing the +/- (2) buttons on the control and display panel. All error messages will reappear when the ignition is switched on again. p. 25
What are the torque specs for the main engine bolts on Terex Atlas 1305?
The manual provides general tightening torques for metric ISO standard bolts (DIN 13 part 13) based on tensile strength class. For example, an M12 bolt with tensile strength class 10.9 requires a tightening torque of 130 Nm. Specific torque specs for "main engine bolts" are not provided. p. 64
How to reset the hydraulic system on Terex Atlas 1605?
To prepare the hydraulic system after initial operation or pump replacement, it is essential to bleed the pump. This involves removing the banjo screw from the fuel admission pressure test port (M1), filling the pump with hydraulic oil until the top of the screw connection, and then re-screwing the hydraulic lead. p. 197
What is the recommended engine oil change interval for Terex Atlas excavators?
The engine oil should be changed for the first time after 50 hours of operation, and subsequently every 500 hours of operation. p. 494
What is the replacement interval for the hydraulic fluid filter element on Terex Atlas excavators?
The hydraulic fluid filter element should be renewed for the first time after 50 hours of operation, and then every 500 hours of operation. p. 490
Is this Terex Atlas 1305 & variants Workshop Manual a digital download?
Immediate download of the complete 508-page searchable Workshop Manual. Access it on any device, from a laptop at your desk to a phone in the field.
