ASV SC-50 Common Problems This Manual Covers

ASV SC-50 rubber track keeps derailing or throwing off the front idler in muddy ground

Jack the machine per the procedure on page 26, then check sag: you want 3-4 inches from the bottom of the track to the ground, following the adjustment steps on page 94. Dig packed mud and gravel out of the roller and idler pockets first; debris alone will throw a correctly tensioned track.

Manual Section: Product Safety and Maintenance Procedures p. 94
Rubber tracks cracking and chunking early, lugs wearing unevenly on one side

Check track sag against the 3-4 inch spec on page 94; a loose track slaps and chunks, an overtight one tears lugs off. Inspect rollers and idlers for flat spots and clean the undercarriage daily in abrasive material. When remounting idler wheels, torque the mounting bolts to 111 +/- 10 lb-ft (page 143).

Manual Section: Product Safety and Maintenance Procedures p. 143
Engine runs but hydraulics won't operate, travel drive weak in both directions

Check the hydraulic reservoir level and top up with the fluid listed on page 54 before anything else. Replace the hydraulic filter per the schedule in the maintenance section starting on page 26, then work through the hydraulics chart on page 48. The auxiliary pump should develop 3000 psi; pressure well below that points to pump or relief valve trouble.

Manual Section: Troubleshooting p. 50
Engine overheating in hot weather, temperature climbing within thirty minutes of loaded work

Blow out the radiator and oil cooler fins with compressed air, working from the fan side outward; packed chaff and dust are the usual cause. Verify coolant level and condition using the long-life antifreeze listed on page 54, and confirm engine oil is full at 11.2 quarts (page 30). The overheating chart on page 48 covers the rest.

Manual Section: Troubleshooting p. 50
Grinding or popping noise from drive sprocket area, track jumping teeth under load

Inspect the drive sprocket teeth for hooked or shark-finned wear and check for loose hardware. Replace worn sprockets using the service procedures starting, torquing mounting bolts to 129 +/- 10 lb-ft (page 146) and drive tooth bolts to 88 ft-lb dry (page 73). Reset track sag to 3-4 inches afterward.

Manual Section: Product Safety and Maintenance Procedures p. 169
