When one of these rollers drops vibration halfway through a lift, the fault is hiding somewhere between the exciter drive and the closed loop hydraulics, and guessing at a pressure setting is how a good travel pump becomes scrap. This is the factory Bomag Service Manual (OEM ID 008 911 63) for the BW 211 D-40, BW 212 D-40 and BW 213 D-40 smooth drum single drum rollers and their padfoot counterparts, the BW 211 PD-40, BW 212 PD-40 and BW 213 PD-40, from serial number 101 582 42 and up per the model list on the cover.

At 1,332 pages in English, this is the repair book, written for the mechanic doing the actual work on the machine rather than the operator in the seat.

It downloads as a PDF with 17,859 bookmarks for navigation, so you can print the pages you need, take them to the machine, and get it back in the pass.

Bomag BW 211–213 Series Common Problems This Manual Covers

No vibration or weak amplitude

The drum stops shaking mid pass, or one amplitude setting works and the other does not, and the lift will not make density. Work through the vibration drive before condemning the exciter shaft, because the fault is often upstream in the circuit.

Manual Section: Vibration
Roller creeps or will not travel

The engine runs but the machine barely moves, or travel dies on a grade. In a closed loop travel drive that usually starts with charge pressure, and checking it against the factory procedure beats swapping a pump on a guess.

Manual Section: Travel drive
Engine cranks but will not start

A no start at the beginning of the shift stalls the whole fill. Fault finding the fuel supply, shutdown circuit and starting system in order saves hours over parts swapping.

Manual Section: Engine
Slow or wandering steering

The machine drifts off the line or the articulated joint responds late, which turns every pass into a correction. The steering system is worked through as its own circuit, from the steering pump to the cylinder.

Manual Section: Steering
No crank, dead gauges, blown fuses

Intermittent electrical faults on a machine that lives in dust and vibration are a wiring problem more often than a component problem. Tracing the circuit systematically is the only way to find a chafed harness before it strands the roller again.

Manual Section: Electrical system
Hydraulic oil running hot

Oil temperature climbing under full vibration load points to internal leakage, a tired cooler or a circuit held over relief. Finding which loop is making the heat is diagnostic work, not guesswork.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which machines does this manual cover?

Six Bomag single drum roller models: the smooth drum BW 211 D-40, BW 212 D-40 and BW 213 D-40, and the padfoot BW 211 PD-40, BW 212 PD-40 and BW 213 PD-40, from serial number 101 582 42 and up as listed per model on the cover.

Is this the service manual or the operator's book?

This is the Service Manual, factory document 008 911 63, written for repair and fault finding work on the machine. It is not the operating instructions and not a spare parts catalogue, so it is aimed at the mechanic rather than the operator.

How do I find anything in 1,332 pages?

The PDF carries 17,859 bookmarks, so you navigate by machine system and procedure from the bookmark panel instead of scrolling. That matters when the roller is down mid shift and you need one test procedure, not the whole book.

How do I get the manual after purchase?

It is a direct digital download. After payment you download the PDF (122.5 MB, English, 1,332 pages) and it is yours to keep, with no subscription, activation or waiting for a paper copy in the post.
