This is the factory two-book workshop manual for the Fendt 700 and 800 Vario series - 711, 712, 714, 716, 815, 817 and 818 - covering machines from 1998 to 2006 (AGCO document X990.005.051.010, Edition 08/2006, from chassis 711/../8001). It is organised by Fendt group codes: 1000 Transmission for the Vario CVT and its control unit, 2000 Engine, 9600 Hydraulics with test values like the 20-23 bar system pressure and 110 l/min pump flow, 9000 Elektrik with wiring, and 9700 Electronics with the real dotted-hex fault codes this generation actually throws. Front axle, steering, cab, air-conditioning, power lift, front power lift and air compressor sections round it out. This is the book the Fendt dealer techs worked from.

Fendt 711-818 Vario Common Problems This Manual Covers

Vario transmission shifts erratically, hunts, or refuses to engage drive

Group 1000 Transmission gives the hydrostatic unit test procedures and pressure specifications, while 9700 Electronics covers reading the TCU's dotted-hex fault memory and running the code 4007 Vario calibration after repairs. Most 'dead transmission' calls turn out to be a sensor or calibration issue, not a rebuild.

Manual Section: Transmission (Group 1000)/ Electronics (Group 9700) p. 237
Engine cranks but won't start, or stalls without warning in the field

Group 2000 Engine covers the mechanical side while 9000 Elektrik traces the EMR2 ECU circuits, crankshaft sensor wiring and relay supply. The wiring diagrams let you check sensor signals and supply voltages at the connector before condemning an expensive control unit or fuel pump.

Manual Section: Engine (Group 2000)/ Elektrik (Group 9000) p. 46
Weak or dead implement hydraulics, slow power lift, three-point hitch drops under load

Group 9600 Hydraulics documents the load-sensing circuit with real test values - 200 bar relief valve setting, 110 l/min pump flow, 20-23 bar standby pressure - and 8610 Power lift covers the hitch itself. Gauge readings against these specs separate pump wear from a stuck relief valve or blocked filter fast.

Manual Section: Hydraulics (Group 9600)/ Power lift (Group 8610) p. 1054
Dashboard throws module communication errors, gauges drop out intermittently

This generation runs a CAN bus between the TCU, engine ECU and dashboard, and a chafed harness or corroded connector mimics a failed module. Group 9000 Elektrik provides the wiring diagrams and connector pinouts, and 9700 Electronics maps the fault codes to the affected bus segment so you fix the wire, not swap parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Vario shifts erratically or won't take up drive. Does this manual actually help with the CVT?

Yes, and that is the main reason to buy it. Group 1000 Transmission covers the Vario hydrostatic-mechanical unit, including the 45 degree swivel angle units unique to Fendt, pressure test points and the transmission control unit. Combined with group 9700 Electronics you can pull the stored fault codes and work back to whether the problem is a pressure sensor, the TCU or actual hydraulic pressure loss instead of guessing. p. 237

Does it list the real fault codes? Everything I find online looks made up.

It lists the genuine codes for this generation, which use a dotted format like 1.2.1F or 1.2.21 - not the E-number style you see quoted on forums, which belongs to other machines. Group 9700 Electronics documents the codes, what triggers them and how to clear the fault memory. The Vario calibration procedure, code 4007, is also covered, which you will need after transmission or TCU work.

I've lost hydraulic power to my implements. Where do I start?

Group 9600 Hydraulics and 9400 Hydraulic pump assembly. The manual gives you the actual test values: 110 l/min pump flow, working and load-sensing pressure up to 200 bar, control standby pressure of 20-23 bar with the auxiliary control valve locked and 42-45 bar unlocked. Put a gauge on the test point, compare against those numbers, and you know within an hour whether it is the pump, the relief valve or a clogged filter.

Which exact models and years does this cover?

The 700 series 711, 712, 714 and 716 Vario, and the 800 series 815, 817 and 818 Vario, model years 1998 to 2006, from chassis number 711/../8001 onward. It is the Edition 08/2006 factory set, so it includes updates accumulated over the production run. It does not cover the later SCR-generation 700s - those are a different book.

Is this usable in the shop, or is it a parts catalogue in disguise?

It is a workshop repair manual, organised the way Fendt organised their own service documentation - group codes 0000 through 9900 covering teardown, adjustment and test procedures with specifications. Engine, transmission, front axle, steering, brakes and air compressor, cab, air-conditioning, both power lifts, plus the full electrical and electronics sections. It assumes you can turn a spanner but walks you through the measuring and setting values a guess won't get you.
