Part of the Hitachi Repair Manuals.
This is the factory repair set for the Hitachi EX-5 series mid-to-large excavators: EX220-5, EX300-5, EX300LC-5, EX330LC-5, EX350H-5, EX350LCH-5, EX370-5 and EX370HD-5, built 1998-2004. It combines the Technical Manual (system operation, performance standards, troubleshooting) with the Workshop Manual (teardown and rebuild of every major component). You get pump device, control valve, swing and travel device service, boom/arm/bucket and cylinder work, undercarriage repair, and a full ISUZU 6SD1 engine section from removal through rebuild. The performance test chapter gives the actual numbers - 258 L/min per main pump, 31.4 MPa main relief, 34.3 MPa on power boost - so you can measure a tired machine against factory spec instead of guessing.

Hitachi EX220-5, EX300-5, EX300LC-5, EX330LC-5, EX350H-5, EX350LCH-5, EX370-5, EX370HD-5 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Weak digging force or main pump suspected worn after high hours
Run the pump flow and main relief checks in the Operational Performance Test section against the 258 L/min and 31.4 MPa (34.3 MPa power boost) standards, then follow the Upperstructure chapter for pump device removal, disassembly and part inspection if flow is actually down.
Manual Section: Operational Performance Test / UpperstructureEngine overheating during heavy work
The Engine and Troubleshooting sections give the radiator air-tight test (68.6 kPa), cap opening pressure check (49 kPa), thermostat and water pump inspection, so you can prove which cooling component failed before replacing anything on a hot, hard-to-reach package.
Manual Section: Engine / TroubleshootingMachine tracks off line or one side travels weak
Use the travel performance and mistrack tests in Operational Performance Test to isolate the weak side, then the Undercarriage section for travel device teardown, center joint seal replacement and track adjuster service - center joint seals are a frequent culprit on EX-5 machines.
Manual Section: Operational Performance Test / UndercarriageSwing drifts on a slope or groans when stopping
Component Operation explains how the swing brake valve (28.4 MPa relief) and parking brake work, and the Upperstructure chapter covers swing device removal, reduction gear teardown and maintenance standards for bearings and brake parts, so you can tell valve trouble from mechanical wear.
Manual Section: Component Operation / UpperstructureFrequently Asked Questions
My EX300LC-5 has lost power in the boom and arm and moves jerky under load. Will this manual help me find out if the main pump is worn before I spend money on one?
Yes, and do the test before buying anything. The Operational Performance Test section gives the factory pump delivery standard - 258 L/min per main pump - plus the procedures to measure flow and relief pressures on the machine. Compare your readings to spec: if flow is down, the Upperstructure section covers pump device removal and disassembly; if pressures are off, Troubleshooting walks you through the control valve and regulator side first. Plenty of 'bad pumps' turn out to be a relief valve or pilot problem.
Does it cover the ISUZU 6SD1 engine, or just point me to a separate engine manual?
The engine section is in here: removal and installation, teardown, inspection and rebuild of the 6SD1, with the working numbers you need - 2.8 MPa cylinder compression standard, injection pressure of 19.6 MPa, valve and head work. For a machine this age, the common jobs are head gaskets, injectors and cooling system, and all of that is covered without buying a second book.
The machine overheats when digging hard. Where do I start?
Start with the cooling system checks in the Engine and Troubleshooting sections rather than throwing parts at it. The manual gives the radiator air-tight test pressure (68.6 kPa) and cap opening pressure (49 kPa), thermostat and water pump inspection, and coolant capacities (18 L radiator, 11.1 L oil cooler). On these machines a partially clogged radiator core or a lazy cap fails those simple tests fast. Also remember hydraulic heat feeds the same cooling package - the performance test section helps rule out a relief valve dumping oil over relief all day.
Can I reseal my own boom and arm cylinders with this?
Yes. The Front Attachment section covers boom, arm and bucket cylinder removal, disassembly, seal replacement and reassembly, with maintenance standards so you can check rod and tube condition while it is apart. Cylinder seal kits are one of the most common jobs on 20-plus-year-old EX-5 machines, and doing it yourself is a fraction of a shop rebuild - just check the rod for chrome damage first or the new seals will not last.
Does it include tightening torques and service limits, or just procedures?
Both. The Workshop General Information section carries the tightening torque tables and general repair instructions, and each component chapter (swing device, travel device, control valve, cylinders) includes maintenance standards - the wear limits that tell you whether a part goes back in or gets replaced. That is the difference between a factory manual and a parts-swapping guess.
