My 6930 overheats within minutes of starting. Will this manual help?
Yes, this is a known weak point on these engines. The water pump has a plastic impeller, and when it breaks the gauge pegs almost immediately because coolant simply stops moving. The cooling section covers water pump removal and installation on the PowerTech 6.8L, plus thermostat and cooling system testing so you can confirm the fix. Do not keep running it hot hoping it settles, a cooked 6.8L costs far more than a pump.
Does it cover the variable geometry turbo?
It does. The VGT on these engines seizes when the vane mechanism cokes up, the classic check is lifting the actuator linkage and seeing whether it drops back under its own weight. Be honest about the job though, splitting one of these tractors needs proper stands, splitting rails and a clean floor.
