Kawasaki Mule 3000, 3010, 3020 (KAF620) Common Problems This Manual Covers

Kawasaki Mule 3010 engine stumbles at idle and dies unless choke stays partially on

Remove the float bowl and inspect the float valve needle tip; it must be smooth without grooves, scratches, or tears, per the inspection procedure on page 59. Replace a worn needle, clean the jets and passages, then torque the float bowl screws to 2.0 N-m (18 in-lb) from page 43 during reassembly.

Manual Section: Fuel System p. 59
Brake pedal slowly sinks to the floor, fluid weeping around rear wheel drums

Pull the brake drums and inspect the wheel cylinders for fluid weeping; replace worn cups instead of honing pitted bores. Check every hose for cracks and swelling, since the rubber hardens within a few years. When fitting new hoses, torque the banjo bolts to 25 N-m (18 ft-lb) per page 232, then bleed the system fully.

Manual Section: Brakes p. 232
Engine cranks but won't fire after winter storage, spark seems weak or missing

Work through the engine troubleshooting chart on page 323, checking fuel flow, spark, and compression in order. Remove the spark plug, clean it, and set the gap to 0.7 to 0.8 mm as specified on page 281. If spark stays weak with a good plug, test the ignition coil and plug wire.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 323
Front differential whines and four wheel drive binds in turns after mud work

Drain the front final gear case and refill with 0.4 L of API GL-5 or GL-6 hypoid gear oil rated for limited slip differentials, viscosity SAE85W-140, SAE90, or SAE140, filled to the filler opening level per page 194. Change this oil every year, and sooner after heavy mud or deep water crossings.

Manual Section: Final Drive p. 194
Transmission growls and shifts hard after long seasons working in mud and dust

Drain the transmission while the oil is warm, then torque the drain plug to 15 N-m (11 ft-lb) as shown on page 157. Refill with API GL-5 hypoid gear oil, SAE90 above 5°C (41°F), until the level sits between the H and L lines on the dipstick per page 158. Shorten the change interval in muddy conditions.

Manual Section: Transmission p. 157
