Landini Legend 105-165 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Landini Legend hydraulics sluggish when oil warms up, rear lift slow, remote valves weak under load
Check transmission oil level first; the system holds 85 L (page 293), and low oil starves both pumps. Tee a gauge into the low pressure circuit and verify 17 to 18 bar per the specs on page 181. If pressure is low, replace the 40 micron intake and 20 micron delivery filter cartridges before condemning the pump.
Manual Section: Hydraulic Circuit p. 181Engine cranks slowly or will not start in cold weather, battery seems weak after sitting
Load test the battery before condemning the starter: spec is 12 V, 95 Ah, with 750 A cold cranking surge at -18 C, all on page 501. Clean and tighten both ground straps, then follow the starter motor checks on page 63. Recharge a flat battery slowly, about 20 hours at low amperage.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 63Engine down on power under load, black exhaust smoke, fuel consumption higher than normal
Replace the fuel filter and air filter, then drain any water from the fuel system before chasing bigger faults. Work through the insufficient power and exhaust fumes checks starting on page 63. While the engine is hot, set valve clearances to 0.20 mm intake and 0.45 mm exhaust from page 47.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 63PTO drops out under load or flashes overspeed fault code 001883, seat switch alarm shows too
Check the seat switch first; code 002818 means the PTO sees no operator in the seat. Next unplug the PTO speed sensor and measure it: a healthy inductive sensor reads 450 ohm, listed on page 537. Inspect the sensor tip and gap, then clean connector pins and repair chafed harness sections before buying parts.
Manual Section: Power Take-Off p. 142Power shuttle engages harshly or delays when reversing, response feels different between forward and reverse
Test the clutch pedal limit switch with a multimeter: 550 ±10 ohm pressed, 2740 ±10 ohm released, per page 571. Readings outside that range confuse shuttle engagement. Check the reverse shuttle lever contacts and Hall effect sensors next, then run a shuttle calibration through the LandTools software covered from page 594.
Manual Section: DeltaSix Transmission Troubleshooting p. 571Frequently Asked Questions
What are the torque specifications for the cylinder head bolts on a Landini Legend tractor?
When replacing the cylinder head gasket, the bolts must be torqued using the angular method. First, torque the bolts to 110 Nm, then apply an additional angle based on the bolt length: 150 degrees for small bolts, 180 degrees for medium bolts, and 210 degrees for long bolts. p. 55
What is the replacement interval for the engine oil filter?
The engine oil filter should be changed every 500 hours of operation. p. 39
What is the replacement interval for the fuel filter cartridges?
The fuel filter cartridges should be changed every 500 hours of operation. p. 39
What is the correct valve clearance for the engine when hot?
For a hot engine, the intake valve clearance should be 0.20 mm and the exhaust valve clearance should be 0.45 mm. p. 47
How do I check the pressure of the low pressure circuit?
The pressure reading after all functions are engaged must be between 16 bar and 20 bar. If the pressure is lower, check the calibration of the upkeep valve on the Comatrol or Slanzi power pack by inserting a pressure gauge on the delivery. p. 485
