Printed under Link-Belt book number F00056 1092, this 124-page Link-Belt LS-4300 operator manual PDF is the factory owner's book for the LS-series hydraulic excavator. The Operation chapter carries hydraulic and electric circuit diagrams next to component locations, instruments and controls, operation modes, and the emergency bypass for a switch malfunction. Operating instructions follow: warm up, cold climate operation, transportation, and storage. After them come the lubrication chart, inspection check list, periodic and irregular maintenance, troubleshooting, and the hydraulic hammer and long front attachments. Fill the Isuzu engine oil pan to 33 L. The main relief valve sets at 4,600-4,700 psi (310-320 kgf/cm²). For your long front attachment setup, the relief valve pressure settings list pilot relief at 650-700 psi and travel forward at 5200-5500 psi. Bookmarks mirror the chapter layout, and the text layer lets you type a term such as fuse and jump to that page.

Link-Belt LS-4300 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Link-Belt LS-4300 excavator where traveling, swinging, and excavating all go slowly at the same time

Check the hydraulic oil level first and add oil if it is low; the sump tank holds 152L per page 68. Do not remove the hydraulic tank cap right after operation until all internal pressure is released (page 67). Then verify the load mode switch works and engine rpm is not dropping. If those check out, have pump output adjusted or repaired as page 104 directs.

Manual Section: Main body p. 104
Engine water overheating with more than 8 bar graph segments illuminated on the temperature gauge

Check the LEVEL and HEAT lamps first, and never stop the engine immediately if it is overheated (page 49). Remove the radiator cap only after internal pressure is released (page 67). Add coolant, adjust or replace the fan belt, or replace the thermostat as the lamps indicate. Clean the dust preventive net and the oil cooler and radiator fins per page 104; wear safety goggles with compressed air (page 84).

Manual Section: Main body p. 104
Engine oil lamp comes on and the warning buzzer sounds during operation

Check the engine oil level on the dipstick and add oil if low. Capacity is 33L for the ISUZU engine (page 68) or 22.4L for the Cummins engine (page 82). Silence the buzzer with the lamp check/alarm stop switch (page 36). If the level is correct, clean or replace a clogged oil filter or replace a defective pressure oil switch, then start the engine and check for oil leakage (page 81).

Manual Section: Engine and its auxiliary parts p. 103
Upper swing body swing is slow or the machine will not swing at all

Check that the swing lock lever is not engaged; the manual warns never to try swinging with it engaged (page 28). Bleed all hydraulic pressure from the circuits before inspecting (page 65), then inspect the hydraulic lines for leaks or damage. If the lines are sound, have the swing motor seals, swing brake valve, swing parking brake and swing brake valve relief pressure repaired or adjusted per page 104.

Manual Section: Main body p. 104
Starter motor will not turn or the BATT lamp flickers when turning the key

Check the battery charge and recharge it if low, then inspect the electrical wiring and repair any fault. If the BATT lamp flickers, add battery fluid or replace a failed battery per page 103. Keep open flame away from the battery since it produces explosive gas, and do not touch battery solution (page 58). Crank no longer than 10 to 15 sec, then let the starter cool 10 to 15 sec (page 27).

Manual Section: Engine and its auxiliary parts p. 103
Engine producing black exhaust smoke with the FILTER lamp lit on the instrument panel

Clean or replace the air cleaner first, since a lit FILTER lamp points to a clogged air cleaner on page 103. Restart and watch the exhaust under normal operation. If black exhaust continues with a clean air cleaner, the listed cause is a defective nozzle, which needs replacement. When the cause stays uncertain, consult your distributor as the troubleshooting chart advises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the boom, arm, and bucket slow on an LS-4300?

Slow operation of the boom, arm, and bucket can be caused by insufficient hydraulic oil, a defective load mode switch, low engine RPM, or insufficient pump output. Check these components and perform adjustments or repairs as needed. p. 104

How do I test the pilot circuit pressure on the LS-4300?

To test pilot pressure, install a pressure gauge at the pilot port (Figure 1, page 97) with the control switch in the ON position. The setting pressure should be 650 psi (45 kgf/cm²). p. 97

What is the replacement interval for the pilot oil filter element on the Link-Belt LS-4300?

The pilot oil filter element should be replaced every 500 hours of operation. p. 105

What is the correct torque for the turntable bearing mounting bolts on a Link-Belt LS-4300?

The turntable bearing mounting bolts (M24) must be tightened to a torque of 665–774 ft-lb (92.0–107.0 kg-m). p. 80

What is the hydraulic oil capacity for the LS-4300?

The specified hydraulic oil capacity for the sump tank is 131 gallons (500 liters). p. 87

How quickly can I access this Link-Belt LS-4300 manual after buying?
