Engine characteristics come first in this Manitou MT 1230 SCP repair manual PDF, a 521-page factory book (OEM ID 47940 EN) covering ten telescopic handler variants in the MT CP and SCP family, from the MT 830 CP to the 1230 SCP Turbo. Hydraulic schematics trace the main circuit separately for the CP machines, the 930 SCP and the 1230 SCP, then add the brakes and steering circuit plus exploded views of the lift, telescope and tilt cylinders. Wiring diagrams pair the main electrical view and its legend with the Dana Spicer safety starting layout, while the transmission chapter runs from pressure checks through full disassembly to hydraulic and mechanical trouble shooting. Fill the hydraulic tank with 195 litres and the engine with 7.6 litres of oil. When your machine comes due on the servicing schedule, the intervals sit beside the filter cartridge and belt pages. Bookmarked and searchable, it goes wherever your telehandler works.

Manitou MT 830 CP–MT 1230 SCP Turbo Common Problems This Manual Covers
Manitou MT CP/SCP Perkins engine valve timing mark more than 2 1/2 degrees out at the pulley
Set number 1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke following page 243, with a collar near the valve top in case the crankshaft overshoots. Set number 1 inlet tip clearance to 1.5 mm and check the pulley mark sits within 2 1/2 degrees (4.5 mm on the 203 mm pulley), page 244. Further out means the timing gears are probably out of mesh. Reset clearance to 0.20 mm.
Manual Section: Engine Timing (Bosch Pump) p. 244Bosch fuel injection pump timing off, plunger dial gauge not reading 1.0 mm at check position
Set number 1 piston to TDC, hold the pump outlets with a spanner while pulling the high pressure pipes, then fit adaptor MS.107 and a dial gauge per page 245. Zero at the bottom of plunger stroke, turn the crankshaft clockwise to the check position and read 1.0 mm. Over that, rotate the pump counter-clockwise from the rear; under, clockwise. Tighten flange nuts, recheck, bleed the fuel system.
Manual Section: Engine Timing (Bosch Pump) p. 245Transmission loss of power, excessive temperature or transmission oil pressure warning light on the panel
Check the transmission oil level and confirm the fill against the 10 Litres transmission capacity listed on page 27. Confirm the transmission oil pressure warning light circuit using the instrument panel legend on page 103. Then work through the Hydraulic System Troubleshooting checks in the transmission section for loss of power, excessive temperature and oil pressure faults before tearing anything down.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System TroubleshootingTransmission noisy operation, walking or jumping out of gear and hard shifting
Verify the complaint yourself before ordering parts; page 368 warns that operator reports arrive second or third hand and often misdescribe the actual condition. Run the Mechanical Checks for noise, gear walking, jumping out of gear, hard shifting and bearing failures. With the unit open, replace parts worn to where little service life remains rather than putting them back in.
Manual Section: Mechanical Checks p. 368Alternator not delivering, or low and irregular charging output with a noisy alternator
Disconnect the battery before removing or fitting the alternator, and if you charge the battery on the machine, disconnect both the + and - terminals (page 441). Never disconnect the alternator or regulator outlets with the engine running, and do not connect the exciting coil to earth. Note the wire colour coding, unplug, remove the brush assembly turned outward, and touch each brush with test leads per page 445.
Manual Section: Alternator Troubleshooting p. 441Starter motor fails to operate, with light running current or lock torque out of spec
Test light running current, lock torque and running torque against the Starter Performance data in the Starter Motor section starting on page 452, and follow the Fault Diagnosis steps for a starter that fails to operate. When you clean up the commutator during the repair, do not undercut the commutator segments, as page 462 instructs.
