Mitsubishi 8DC8 hard starting, cranks strong but no fuel reaching the injection pump

Test the lift pump before condemning the injection pump. Run a delivery rate test against the table on page 287; a K type pump should move 600 cc in 15 seconds, a KE type 300 cc. Check air tightness at 196 kPa; any leakage past 0 cc per minute fails the pump.

Pull each nozzle and pop test it; opening pressure should hit 21.6 MPa, the figure listed on page 21. Watch for dribble or a wet tip after the spray cuts off. If fuel is seeping around the nozzle body in the head, replace the injector sleeves and seals rather than reusing them.
