Part of the New Holland Repair Manuals.
Fuel and injection, air intake, exhaust and EGR, coolant, lubrication, starting: the New Holland F5AE / F5CE engine service manual, publication 84465374, works through each of those systems in turn across 290 pages of specifications, tests, and removal and installation procedures for the F5AE and F5CE engine families.
Guessing is the expensive part. A bearing clearance judged by eye, an injector nut pulled up by feel, a turbocharger condemned because nobody checked the intake side first: every one of those buys you a second teardown or a component you cannot put back. The tables here replace feel with figures.
It is a PDF, so it travels on a laptop or tablet to wherever the engine is sitting, on a stand or still in the frame. Cylinder bore, main journal diameters, valve lash, cap torque sequences: all of it is in front of you before anything goes back together.

New Holland F5AE / F5CE Engine Common Problems This Manual Covers
Noisy valvetrain and hard hot starting
Lash opens up as the valve seats and rocker gear wear, and the engine gets loud and lazy to fire. The manual specifies hot clearance of 0.25 mm on the intake and 0.50 mm on the exhaust, so you set it to a number instead of a feeler-gauge habit.
Manual Section: Engine p. 40Main bearing caps torqued by feel
Crankshaft caps pulled up on a guess either crush the bearing or leave the journal loose, and either way the engine comes apart again. The procedure is a pre torque of 45 to 55 N·m, then 75 to 85 N·m, then an angle torque of 85 to 95 degrees.
Manual Section: Introduction p. 11Low oil pressure at idle
A worn oil pump or a tired relief circuit shows first as pressure that sags once the engine is hot. The Lubrication System section gives feed pressure of 2 to 4 bar over a pump rotating speed range of 750 to 4200 RPM, which tells you whether the pump is the problem or the bearings are.
Manual Section: Lubrication System p. 236Cold start aid fails to preheat
When the engine cranks and cranks on a cold morning, the heater element or its supply is the usual suspect. For the F5CE5454G*A001, F5CE5454B*A005 and F5CE5454C*A003 engines, the Starting System section states the cold start aid should reach 850 degrees C in less than 5 seconds, giving you a pass or fail instead of an opinion.
Manual Section: Starting System p. 273Black smoke and rough running
Injectors that leak by, or a fuel injection pump losing delivery balance, show up as smoke, misfire, and poor power under load. The Fuel and Injection System section covers fuel injection pump removal, installation and timing adjustment, plus fuel injector removal and installation.
Manual Section: Fuel and Injection System p. 143Boost loss blamed on the turbocharger
Cracked intake hoses and loose clamps mimic a failing turbo, and turbochargers get replaced for nothing because of it. The Air Intake System section covers turbocharger and air intake manifold removal and installation for each engine family.
Manual Section: Air Intake System p. 183Overheating traced to the water pump
Weeping from the pump vent, a failing bearing, or a tired impeller pushes coolant temperature up long before the engine shows other symptoms. The Engine Coolant System section covers water pump service along with the rest of the cooling circuit.

Which engine models does this manual cover?
The F5AE and F5CE series: F5AE5484A, F5AE9454A, F5AE9454D, F5AE9454J, F5AE9454L, F5AE9484A, F5AE9484B, F5AE9484G, F5AE9484K, F5CE5454B*A005, F5CE5454B, F5CE5454C*A003, F5CE5454G*A001, F5CE9454C, F5CE9454E, F5CE9454G, F5CE9484C and F5CE9484E. It is New Holland publication number 84465374. p. 1
Does it give valve clearance and bore specifications?
Yes. The engine specification pages list hot valve clearance of 0.25 mm intake and 0.50 mm exhaust, and a cylinder bore of 99.000 to 99.020 mm, alongside crankshaft and camshaft figures for measuring wear during a rebuild. p. 40
Are the fuel injection and turbocharger systems included?
Yes. The Fuel and Injection System section begins at page 143 and covers the fuel injection pump; the Air Intake System section follows with the turbocharger, and the Exhaust System section covers the EGR system. p. 143
Can I diagnose an oil pressure warning with it?
Yes. The Lubrication System section gives the oil pressure sensor switching points: on F5CE engines contacts close at 0.2 bar with decreasing pressure and open at 0.9 bar with increasing pressure, and F5AE engines use a sensor calibrated at 0.6 to 0.9 bar, so you can tell a bad sensor from genuine low pressure. p. 244
What do I get after purchasing this New Holland F5AE, F5CE engine manual?
Straight to your device: 290 pages of searchable Service Manual, downloadable the moment payment goes through.
Can I print just the pages I need from this New Holland F5AE, F5CE engine manual?
Zero restrictions. The PDF is DRM-free. Print whatever sections you need to take out to the shop. Standard letter or A4 paper works.
