Part of the New Holland Repair Manuals.
You are up on the knotter deck with a twine end in one hand and an untied bale in the chamber, and what you need is a number, not a theory. The Knotter section of this New Holland BB9090 service manual gives the brake spring length, the needle timing gaps and the torque for the frame bolts.
It runs 701 pages, publication 87749049B, covering the BB9090 large rectangular baler across ten sections: General Information, Electrical System, Hydraulic System, Powertrain, Mainframe, Pickup and Cutter, Feeder and Plunger, Knotter, Specifications and Optional Equipment. You get teardown and assembly procedures, sensor troubleshooting, hydraulic circuits, clutch and flywheel service, and the spec tables for the 3x3, 3x4 and 4x4 balers.
A baler down mid-cutting costs you the hay, not just the afternoon. Download the PDF, print the section you are working in, and let those pages take chaff and grease at the bench until the baler is back in the field.

New Holland BB9090 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Knotter misses ties, bales drop loose
A knotter that skips ties usually traces back to brake and tensioner settings rather than the twine itself. The Knotter section walks the brake adjustment and specifies a knotter brake spring length of 36 mm (1.42 in).
Manual Section: Knotter p. 514Pickup slip clutch chatters or slips
Heavy windrows and a tired clutch spring let the pickup stall while the flywheel keeps turning, and the reel stops feeding evenly. The Pickup and Cutter section sets the slip clutch torque at 565 Nm (417 lbf ft) and the clutch spring length at 30 mm (1-1/8 in).
Manual Section: Pickup and Cutter p. 287Flywheel shearbolts keep letting go
Repeated shearbolt failures point at overfeeding or a dragging flywheel brake, and a nut left loose will shear the bolt on its own. The Powertrain section covers flywheel brake and driveline service and gives a flywheel shearbolt nut torque of 61 Nm (45 lbf ft).
Manual Section: Powertrain p. 218Bale density wanders load to load
Soft or barrel-shaped bales usually mean the density circuit is not holding pressure. The Hydraulic System section covers the bale density circuit, control valves and cylinders, with the baler control valve pressure relief valve set at 200 bar (2900 psi).
Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 132Plunger knocks or runs rough
Worn rollers and loose hardware let the plunger wander in the chamber and beat up the rails, and the noise gets worse under a heavy charge. The Feeder and Plunger section covers roller and bearing replacement and calls for 285 Nm (210 lbf ft) on the plunger roller cap screws.
Manual Section: Feeder and Plunger p. 423Console faults and dead sensors
Bale length errors, stuffer and timing faults, and a console that will not clear usually come down to one sensor, connector or fuse. The Electrical System section covers troubleshooting, sensors, electrical circuits and console general information so you can test instead of swap parts.
Manual Section: Electrical System p. 32Hot wheel hubs and dragging brakes
Roading a large baler between fields is hard on wheel bearings, and a hot hub or a machine that pulls to one side shows up on the way home. The Mainframe section covers wheel bearing and axle shaft service, the axle frame group and the brakes.
Manual Section: Mainframe p. 254Frequently Asked Questions
Which baler and publication does this manual cover?
It is the New Holland service manual for the BB9090 large rectangular baler, publication number 87749049B, 701 pages in English. The Specifications section also carries data for the 3x3, 3x4, 4x4, 70x80 and 70x120 balers. p. 1
Does it include knotter and needle adjustment specs?
Yes. The Knotter section covers twine installation, twine tensioners, knotter assembly and needle setup. As one example, the gap between the bottom of the saw tooth hay dog and the top of the needle mounting plates must be 4 to 8 mm (.16 to .31 in). p. 503
Can I chase console and sensor faults with it?
The Electrical System section covers troubleshooting, sensors, electrical circuits and console general information, so a bale length or stuffer fault can be traced back to the sensor, harness or fuse instead of guessed at and parts-swapped. p. 32
Does it cover the bale density hydraulics?
Yes. The Hydraulic System section covers the bale density circuit, control valves and cylinders, including the baler control valve pressure relief valve setting of 200 bar (2900 psi), plus tie rod and clevis pin torque values for the cylinders. p. 132
Is this New Holland BB9090 manual a PDF I download?
Delivery is instant: a 701-page searchable PDF is yours the second checkout clears. Laptop, tablet, or phone, all fine.
Am I able to print pages from this New Holland BB9090 manual?
Printing is allowed without restriction. Pull the pages you need for the job and bin them when they get greasy.
