If the machine on your jobsite is an MH4.6 or MHPlusC wheeled excavator, this New Holland Kobelco MH4.6, MHPlusC workshop manual PDF is the factory book for it: 972 pages under OEM publication 604.13.482, covering both monobloc and triple articulation front ends. Hydraulic schematics trace the pilot circuits, main control valve and hose routings, while the wiring section maps the APC50 electronic unit and its harnesses connector by connector. Undercarriage work, from the swing bearing through the travel unit to wheels and stabilizers, takes up more than a third of the book. Set the pressure cutting relief valve at 330 bar, and pull the slewing ring mounting screws to 33 daNm, plus or minus 3. A parked excavator burns money by the hour. Print whatever page you need, let it get greasy at the bench, and keep the bookmarked file clean.

New Holland Kobelco MH4.6, MHPlusC Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland Kobelco MH4.6 excavator hydraulic oil runs abnormally hot under load, power drops off

Work the 'oil temperature is abnormally high' chart on page 875: clean a clogged oil cooler, remove any object blocking the oil cooler or engine compartment, adjust a slipping fan belt, replace a faulty bypass relief valve for the oil cooler, and check the return line for clogging. The full flow return filter matters too: its by-pass opens at 200±15 kPa, and the element must be replaced as soon as the by-pass is opened (page 160).

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 875
Weak digging power and slow arm cycle after the machine warms up, all functions feel lazy

Test main pressure before condemning the pump: the pressure cutting relief valve is set at 330 bar and works on the pump LS pilot signal, the max. pressure relief valve at 380 bar acts only if the cutting valve fails, and the swing circuit has its own cut-off valve set at 200 bar (page 131). The switch between the digging and travel/swing power curves depends on the current the control unit sends to regulator solenoid R1, so check the fault list for a 'Prop main pump' message, which points to solenoid R1 wiring (page 917).

Manual Section: Superstructure p. 131
Weak service brakes or low brake and accumulator pressure after hydraulic work

Compare against the standard performances table on page 935: brake valve pressure 70 ± 5 bar in SERVICE condition and 65 ± 5 bar in WORK condition, accumulator preload pressure 50 ± 10 bar and maximum pressure 140 ± 10 bar, steering pump pressure 170 ± 10 bar. For the transmission pressure check, a 0 to 60 bar gauge on the shifting gear cylinder supply should read 0 bar in high speed and more than 35 bar in low speed, with the hydraulic oil at 50 ± 5°C (page 957).

Manual Section: Performance Test p. 935
Hydraulic hoses weeping at the clamps, fresh oil film on the undercarriage every shift

Low-pressure hose clamp torque depends on the clamp type: T-bolt band clamps take 4.4 N·m (0.45 kgf·m) and worm gear band clamps 5.9 to 6.9 N·m (0.6 to 0.7 kgf·m) (page 786). On threaded fittings sealed with tape, confirm the threads are clean and undamaged, wrap the tape in the same direction as the threads, leave one to two pitch threads uncovered and do not overwrap.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 786
Engine lugs down under load or swing turns slow, fault message on the monitor diagnostic screen

Press (F2) for the diagnostic menu and read Actual Fault and Saved Fault (page 917). 'Prop main pump' means solenoid R1 on the pump regulator is disconnected or shorted to ground, with the engine excessively overloaded; 'Prop swing pump' means solenoid R2 on the swing module, with slow swing; 'Poti diesel' points to the actuator potentiometer. Check the wires and connections between the control unit and that component, then use Delete Fault once it is repaired.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 917

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clear fault codes on the APC50 control unit of the New Holland Kobelco MH4.6 or MHPlusC?

To clear or delete faults in the control unit, connect the BB-3 diagnostic tool to the serial connection on the r.h. console. Turn the start-up key to ON, press (F2) to enter the diagnostic menu, and select the 'Delete Fault' option using the keys (1), (2), and (3). This will delete the faults saved in the control unit. p. 917

When should the hydraulic return filter element be replaced on the New Holland Kobelco MH4.6 and MHPlusC?

The hydraulic system uses a full flow oil return filter. You must replace the filter element immediately as soon as the by-pass is opened to prevent serious damage to hydraulic components. The by-pass setting for this filter is 200±15 kPa. p. 828

What is the torque for the slewing ring mounting screws on the New Holland Kobelco MH4.6 and MHPlusC?

When reassembling the superstructure to the undercarriage, the mounting screws for the ring gear must be tightened to a torque of 33±3 daNm. p. 101

What is the torque for remounting the transmission cover on the New Holland Kobelco MH4.6 and MHPlusC?

When remounting the transmission cover, set the torque wrench to 86 to 89 Nm (M12). p. 351

What is the torque for the axle steering arm nuts on the New Holland Kobelco MH4.6 and MHPlusC?

When connecting the steering arms to the steering case, tighten nuts (6) on the arms and lock them into position using a torque wrench setting of 260 to 290 Nm, then find the notch position relative to the cotter pin hole and tighten the nuts further. p. 432

What do I get after purchasing this New Holland Kobelco MH4.6 manual?
