A power-shuttle error code flashing mid-haying costs you daylight, and this New Holland TN75 operator manual PDF is the 189-page factory book (OEM ID 86584836) that sorts it out across four TN series tractors, TN55 through TN75. Transmission and shuttle operation fills a large share of the pages, with the error code list and creeper unit, while later chapters set up the PTO, three-point linkage, remote control valves and metal or liquid ballasting. Your lubrication schedule runs by the hour, from 10 to 1200. Hold fan belt deflection at 10 to 11 mm under a 78 to 98 N load, and keep shop air below 5.9 bar (84 psi) when blowing out the primary filter cartridge. Wrong filters waste a whole trip to town. Take your serial data from the tractor identification pages so the parts counter hands over the right part number the first time; the bookmarked, searchable PDF finds any interval before the weather turns.

New Holland TN55, TN65, TN70, TN75 Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland TN55 to TN75 engine turns over on the starter but will not start

Check the engine will not start chart on page 165 before you reach for tools. Open the fuel filter condensation discharge 3/4 of a turn as shown on page 139 and drain off any water. Then confirm the batteries hold enough charge to spin the 2.5 kW starter at proper speed.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 165
Engine overheating during long field days even after topping up the cooling system

Check fan belt tension following page 127. The belt should deflect 10 to 11 mm under a load of 78 to 98 N. Before you check the coolant, page 18 says: WARNING: Pressurised cooling system. Allow to cool then remove cap carefully. Verify the cooling system is full; it holds 10.0 L per page 162. If it still runs hot, work through the engine overheating causes in the troubleshooting chart starting on page 165.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 165
Engine oil pressure reads low during operation and oil consumption seems excessive

Check the engine oil level before anything else, with the engine switched off on a flat surface; page 136 warns: CAUTION: Never run the engine when the oil level is below the 'MIN' mark. Change the oil and replace the filter, oiling the seal and tightening it 3/4 of a turn by hand as shown on page 142. Refill with 7.5 L when the filter is changed, per page 162. Then work through the low oil pressure causes starting on page 165.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 165
Battery charge light stays on with the engine running or batteries are not charging

Work through the battery charge light and batteries not charging rows of the electrical troubleshooting chart on page 168. Check fan belt tension first, following page 127: the belt should deflect 10 to 11 mm under 78 to 98 N. Clean and tighten loose or corroded terminals, and check that the battery charge is at least 12.6 volts. If the light flashes, page 168 reads that as excessive charge voltage from an alternator fault. For an alternator fault, have the alternator checked by your dealer or authorised service technicians.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 168
Three-point hitch hydraulic lift operates slowly in draft control or linkage does not move

Work through the hydraulic lift rows of the troubleshooting chart on page 170. If the lift operates slowly in draft control, the mixed draft/position control may be incorrectly set: adjust the mixed draft/position control. If lowering speed is too slow, have the valves checked; if the implement does not work satisfactorily, adjust the implement settings. If the linkage does not move, check that the linkage cylinder tubes are connected correctly and reduce the load if the linkage is overloaded. With the tractor on a level surface, the engine switched off and the lift arms lowered, check that the oil level reaches the upper mark on the dipstick as shown on page 142; the rear axle, transmission and hydraulic lift share one 42 L fill per page 162.

Manual Section: Hydraulic Lift and Three Point Linkage Troubleshooting p. 170
Electro-hydraulic power shuttle showing an error code during forward and reverse shuttle operation

The power shuttle does not use a printed code table: the indicator light flashes the error code in six phases, with an example of error code number 21 on page 58. Page 57 cautions: CAUTION: If error codes are displayed, contact NEW HOLLAND specialised personnel immediately. Once the cause is dealt with, the transmission can be re-enabled by moving the shuttle lever to the neutral position and/or pressing the clutch pedal fully down, as described on page 57.

Manual Section: Transmission Error Codes and Creeper Unit p. 57

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I re-enable the New Holland TN55–TN75 transmission after a fault indication?

The transmission can be re-enabled by moving the shuttle lever to the neutral position and/or pressing the clutch pedal fully down. This will stop the indicator (1) from flashing, whereas indicator (2) may remain illuminated. If the control unit detects a critical error, the tractor cannot be used. CAUTION: If error codes are displayed, contact NEW HOLLAND specialised personnel immediately. p. 57

What are the replacement specs for the transmission and services oil filter on a New Holland TN55, TN65, TN70, TN75?

When replacing the transmission and services oil filter (Fig. 24), lubricate the filter seal with fresh oil prior to installation. Tighten the filter by rotating it 3/4 of a turn after the seal contacts the filter base, then top up with new oil. p. 141

What is the correct engine valve clearance for the New Holland TN55, TN65, TN70, TN75 tractors?

The clearance between the valves and the rocker arms for both inlet and exhaust valves is 0.30 ± 0.05 mm (0.01 ± 0.002 in). The inspection must be carried out when the engine is cold. Contact authorised personnel at your local dealer to check the clearance. p. 144

What is the correct tension for the fan belt?

The tension of the fan belt should be 10 to 11 mm (0.39 to 0.43 in) with a load of 78 to 98 N (8 to 10 kg - 17.7 to 22.1 lbs). To adjust, loosen the screw (2) and reset the tension to these values. p. 127

What is the engine oil capacity for the New Holland TN55, TN65, TN70, TN75 tractors?

The engine sump capacity is 6.7 liters (1.8 US gal) without the filter, and 7.5 liters (2.0 US gal) with the filter. p. 162
