Lifting capacity charts and the setup for the hydraulic breaker, load safety device and second and third auxiliary circuits are the toughest pages in the 190-page Takeuchi TB80FR operator manual PDF (OEM ID AL4E001), and the book then widens to every control and daily check on this compact excavator. The instrument cluster, switches, levers and pedals are named before the operation chapter walks you through cold-weather starts, parking, rubber crawler care and loading onto a trailer. When a warning lamp flashes, a fuse blows or the engine overheats, the troubleshooting section tells you what to check, and the maintenance chart lists each service item against its interval. Change the return filter after the first 50 hours, then every 500; swap the outer air cleaner element at 1,000 hours or after six cleanings, whichever comes first. Takeuchi TB80FR Common Problems This Manual Covers
Takeuchi TB80FR coolant temperature warning lamp flashing with water temperature gauge in the red zone
Check for steam with the engine hood closed after parking in a safe place. If there is steam, stop the engine, keep the hood shut and call a Takeuchi sales or service outlet (page 145). If not, idle low until the gauge reaches green, then stop. Never remove the radiator cap while hot. Once cool, check fan belt slack, coolant level and water leaks, then clean radiator fins and cooling system sediment.
Manual Section: If the Engine Overheats p. 145Battery charge warning lamp flashing during operation, fan belt loose or broken on inspection
Inspect the fan belt for slack or breakage following page 149, but stop the engine before opening the hood, as the label on page 35 warns. Press at the center between the fan and alternator pulleys with about 10 kg (22 lb.) (page 112). Slack should be about 10 mm (0.4 in.) per page 114. Adjust as needed. If the lamp keeps flashing, the charger is faulty; consult a Takeuchi outlet.
Manual Section: If a Warning Lamp Flashes p. 149Digging force insufficient on the hoe attachment during digging, especially right after a cold start
Check the hydraulic oil level and replenish to the prescribed level. Release hydraulic system pressure before removing any cap, because page 56 warns oil may spurt out. Run the warm-up procedure if the oil is cold. Clean a clogged air cleaner with air at 686 kPa (99.5 psi) or less (page 121). If the oil is the wrong type, replace it, as the chart on page 150 directs.
Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 150Starter motor turns but engine does not start after running out of fuel
Fill the tank with the engine stopped in a well ventilated place. Do not smoke or allow open flames, and do not fill to capacity (page 109). Turn the starter key to ON and hold it about 20 seconds so the automatic air bleeder purges the fuel system (page 147). If it still will not start, drain water from the fuel system. Never use ether for starting (page 35).
Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 151Rubber crawlers slip off or travel is not smooth with machine not tracking straight
Remove any stones or foreign objects stuck in the crawlers. The chart on page 150 lists them as the cause of rough travel and the machine not traveling straight. If the crawlers slip off, increase crawler tension. Page 151 also flags loose crawlers and loose tensioning cylinder valves. Avoid abrupt course changes and spinning on concrete, which page 89 says wears and damages rubber crawlers.
Manual Section: Other Symptoms p. 151Travel speed cannot be changed or lights and electrical system do not operate
Check the fuses with the starter key OFF and the engine stopped. Open the fuse box cover and replace any blown fuse with a spare of the same capacity; high speed travel uses a 10A fuse (page 148). If the new fuse blows right away, the electrical system has a fault that can cause fire, so consult a Takeuchi outlet. If power will not switch on at all, inspect the fusible link under the left lever cover and call your dealer if it is blown.
